Many older classic movies had homosexual sub themes.
2 of the most well known are “Gilda” made in 1941. Glenn Ford and Rita Hayworths husband have a covert homosexual relationship.
Another is “The Maltese Facon” 1946. Peter Lorre plays a homo in that one. Again - nothing overt.

I watched the last episode of season one of the Fugitive the other day. Towards the end, Richard Kimble hid in a house owned by two men who were obviously supposed to be a couple. They fought like they were married. One said, “This is as much my house as it is yours!” and said something similar about a car one allowed to be destroyed. The men were played by John McGiver and John Fiedler. McGiver was married, while Fiedler never was. I don’t assume either were gay, but they both had gentle, urbane natures that could read that way.
