2 of the most well known are Gilda made in 1941. Glenn Ford and Rita Hayworths husband have a covert homosexual relationship.
Another is The Maltese Facon 1946. Peter Lorre plays a homo in that one. Again - nothing overt.
I watched the last episode of season one of the Fugitive the other day. Towards the end, Richard Kimble hid in a house owned by two men who were obviously supposed to be a couple. They fought like they were married. One said, This is as much my house as it is yours! and said something similar about a car one allowed to be destroyed. The men were played by John McGiver and John Fiedler. McGiver was married, while Fiedler never was. I dont assume either were gay, but they both had gentle, urbane natures that could read that way.
