Just Re-Read “Jack Hinson’s One Man War- A Civil War Sniper. An amazing true story worthy of being a movie but never will be. Hinson was a neutral Tennessee farmer turned deadly confederate civilian sniper after Union soldiers murdered his two sons, decapitated them and stuck their heads on his front gate leading to his house. Hollyweird would never make a film today highlighting the confederate cause.

Hinson was credited with killing over 100 Union troops, (mainly officers) while using his custom made .50 cal Kentucky rifle. Hinson was in his mid fifties at that time- an old man. He was present during the battle at Ft Donelson, conferred with generals from both sides during the surrender process (a very bizarre affair), befriended Grant and later fought with Nathan Bedford Forrest. He lived to the ripe old age of 67 and his rifle still exists with his kill punches still visible on the barrel.

I highly recommend the book.
