We worry so about pitch counts today, Spahn threw 221 pitches and Marichal 201. Men of the game.

I don’t thiMk there is a book about it but an equally “Greatest Game Ever Pitched” was Harvey Haddix loss to Lew Burdette. Haddix pitched 12+ no hit innings and lost. The story was posted on FR a couple of weeks ago.
