You know Rodguy, it was the same with Bill Clinton. For the life of me, I couldn't see why folks and the press went gaga over him. I pegged him and his wife as grifters from nearly the first time I saw him in 1992. Meanwhile the people I talked to thought he was great. When he got elected, I was stunned. He went into office and he was a dud from the first day. I expected it, but the guys I spoke with just made excuses and the press adored him. That's the reason I came to Free Republic. Here I found others that hadn't fallen under his spell. Truly, that was my only explanation. I mean, everything written or spoken about him or Hillery was over the top to an amazing degree. He did the NYT crossword puzzle in ink in 4 minutes, and she was the smartest woman since the beginning of time. All I saw were the same two grifters, so I thought it must be some voodoo spell that I was immune from. What other reason could it be?
When Obama spoke at the 2004 Democrat Convention, I got the same feeling. I told my sister that this guy was going to be president one day. So I looked into him a little bit and decided I must be wrong. He had zero record of accomplishment and he had a real question of citizenship to boot. His wife was also without merit, to the degree that the only thing the press could say about her was to compliment her 'toned arms'.
When No-Name let him win, I couldn't believe it. When we let it happen again in 2012, I thought that black magic had once again found it's way to influence the voting public.
The evidence of this spell wasn't hard to spot, but it seemed to hit the members of the press especially hard. There was no mistaking the day to day reporting for anything in the range of normal journalism. Hell, it was beyond hero worship. Whenever I read the 'news', it seemed to be a coordinated effort to propagandize us, the public. I don't know why it didn't work on me while it hit so many other smart people I knew.
When Q came along, I loved the puzzle aspect of the questions, but I really gravitated to the occult (Satanic) message that emerged from the ANSWERS to those questions. It seems to be the only answer that could explain the pure evil that pedogate and the rest is a part of.
Now, if you buy my tale, it suddenly becomes very believable that these lowlifes could scam us for eight long ones. If you don't buy it, what is an alternative explanation?

Also keep in mind that despite all the crap going on around Trump back to 2016 maybe even 2015 and yet admiral Mike Rogers did not go to Trump tower untill after Trump was elected president. Why? Because he was finally legally allowed to reveal that intel information to the president elect. The good guys play by the rules sometimes that takes a little extra time and effort.
Mike Rogers first met with Donald Trump in November of 2016, while Rod Rosenstein was appointed to his current position at the end of April 2017... hopefully the president was brought fully up to speed on RR by then in spite of the advice/assistance of GOP-e imbeds (past and present).

Probably sooner. I'm sure Sessions isn't quite the bump on a log he's usually portrayed as. He was in DOJ as a USA before being elected to the Senate. He likely had informed opinions on many people, especially as how to staff DOJ had to be on his mind. I suspect he (Sessions) had a reasonable handle on RR in January, before RR was nominated.
Other than for curiosity, it doesn't matter if Trump or Sessions or both were of a mind that RR would be a skunk; or if they were uncertain (In January/April 2017) and decided to risk a chance. The important thing is they were prepared for a "bad outcome" on that front.
Anyway, agreeing with you that Trump was as up to speed as one could be, in spite of all efforts to derail his presidency and his agenda. In an operation like FedGov, it is inevitable that certain forces will work subtle sabotage and subversion. It isn't like a business where success is measured in profit and customer satisfaction.
Years might even be an understatement - perhaps months.
A few conditions need to be met first, but the currency & surveillance piece is pretty much complete if not ready now.
