Thank you for your posts tracking the ending of the 62nd Army Band. My time in the 62nd was mid-70’s and only for a few brief years. I have since moved far away from the desert southwest, but the lessons and skills learned those many decades ago are still with me.
Multiple public performances on a daily basis will strengthen a young musician, regardless of skill level. It was there that I learned the basic skills of tone production, listening to others while playing your part, working up difficult passages to make the song complete, and how to seamlessly recover from the inevitable mistakes.
Passing those skills on to the next generation of musicians has been, and still is, a great source of joy and satisfaction. So it is with a strong feeling of melancholy that I read of the passing of an important part of my life, the 62nd Army Band. May you stay in our memories throughout our lives.
I had a coworker who enlisted and went to F.H. He was mystified by the “kill” training? After all, who’s there to kill in Huachuca? Thanks for posting. F.H. hasn’t come to mind in a long time.
