Many readers likely are wondering why Laura Bush put her name on an op-ed condemning President Trump for enforcing a border protection law that her husband signed into law.
The short answer is she is all the Democrats have left
Their leadership is too tainted by scandal or incompetence (and in the case of Hillary, both) to persuade anyone.
Bill is a joke with his pants around his ankles. Obama's legacy quickly shrank like a cheap T-shirt in its first wash. Not one of their 2020 candidates had sense enough to give President Trump a sportsmanlike chance, which renders their sermons on morality to be the political opportunism in the eyes of even among the low-information voters who are the bedrock of their electoral battle plan.
Thus the outreach to a former Republican. Old President Bush is too old. The younger President Bush is too ashamed of his presidency to speak out.
So it fell upon Laura Bush to put her name on this column.
She is a former Republican because if you did not support our candidate in the last presidential election, then you have left the team. Parties are national. Either you support the nominee or you lose your membership.
The Democrats are pushing to erase the borders. They cannot make a valid argument, and so they must make an emotional one. They chose children being torn from their mothers as the emotional tug.
The roll out 10 days ago was messy because they chose for their propaganda a heart-wrenching photo from 2014 -- when Democrats were in charge.
But nevertheless, they plunge forward. They want open borders now, now, now.
"I live in a border state. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart," she wrote.
That's the law her husband agreed to.
And the piece included the kind of chest-thumping morality that Obama favors.
"Americans pride ourselves on being a moral nation. If we are truly that country, then it is our obligation to reunite these detained children with their parents — and to stop separating parents and children in the first place," she wrote.
How many children of military parents did her husband separate with his wars in Afghanistan and Iraq?
The Establishment likes cheap labor and so they exploit illegal immigrants to achieve this.
Which they wrap in morality, like Keith Olbermann wrapping himself in an American flag for his book cover. The difference is they are less sincere.

One could hardly assume the Bushs were clandestine regarding their ties to the d’rats.
After all GW was Bill Clinton’s brother from another mother. All Bush men would never back down when a photo was published with their arms around d’rats or d’rinos The jungle is wild and one must do what they can in order to survive.
I didn’t think I could possibly have more contempt for the Bush family, but Laura has proven me wrong.
To be honest I never could warm up to her much, unlike her mother in law who I did like.

What has been rejected by these people is the vision of the Founding Fathers of an America: Based On Experience & Reason.
There is no way this is just a "difference of opinion." Those who hate President Trump mean to end the America we believe in.

It’s puzzled me for years why the younger Bush has been so quiet. This explanation makes more sense as time goes on.
Obama has been keeping quiet so far. Is he behind the scenes being the wise and cool man?
The Bushes never met a Democrat idea they didn’t like...or roll over for.
The younger Bushes, especially (George H. W.’s kids) demonstrate the extreme bias that goes with the uncritical acceptance of Ivy League student gullibility, as a pseudo virtue. That does not mean they can rationally defend the “values” that also go with it.
