Likewise!
This is PC on a scale of mental retardation, bringing women into the sports booth.
I’d be okay with women announcers if they didn’t all have the same shrill pitch of an ex-wife lecturing you as you pull away from the driveway. What men are reacting to is visceral because that’s all we’ve ever known that shrill yell to mean.
The first generation of black commentators were denounced because they “mumbled” and many of them did. Eventually, the J-schools trained blacks who spoke clearly and effectively (Mike Tirico, Gus Johnson among others). Here’s hoping the nets find women commentators who sound like Diana Rigg or Lauren Bacall.
Another non-story from fake news. Tiresome.
I recall years ago reading a story of how NATO used to monitor the radio transmissions of Soviet pilots. They were listening to one conversation where the pilot was clearly having trouble with the airplane, while a recorded female voice kept calling out the altitude in sultry tones. "Fifteen thousand feet ... ten thousand feet ... five thousand feet ...." At the very end the pilot cried out, "Shutup, bitch, don't tell me how to fly an airplane!" Then there was silence.
Or even Hillary Clinton!
OTOH, cockpit warnings use a woman’s voice because men react to it more quickly.
No, she doesnt.
Im more qualified to comment on the mens games than she is. Its all about being PC at ESPN.
Call it sexist but women calling games to me, or at least certain sports, just gives it a This game isnt very important feel.
Your crap college football games is pretty much right on the money. Youll have a top 25 team vs their weakest conference opponent or non-conference game and.... boom female announcer.
For some reason the woman that does the Premier League studio show for NBC has really grown on me to the point I like her. However play by play I just cant stand women announcers.
There’s a delivery and timber to the voice of an announcer like Al Michaels, Pat Summerall, or Keith Jackson. It’s not knowledge of the game that female announcers lack. It’s the pitch of the voice.
sphinx wrote: “I think Julie Foudy does an excellent job.”
You beat me to it. Foudy is one of a minority of former top-level players who really knows the game and what is important to say during a broadcast. Foudy -vs- Stu Holden? Foudy hands down!
I find her easy on the ears and I wish she were on a permanent panel or in the booth for much of this WC.
All it’s about is the quest for feminist man-haters to take over all male jobs and endeavors.
But, their “desires” are always subject to the publics’ preferences.
Spot on.
A Lauren Bacall or Mercedes Cambridge or Cathy Lewis of the 1940s and 1950s would be sexy as hell to hear in the booth.
Men are no longer allowed to gather without the ‘guidance’ of women.
The ‘mens clubs’ are all gone, even the ‘boy scouts’ must include women & girls.
Tiresome.
So do I! I hate women commentators!
I want my google map and gps to have a British male voice - along the line of George Sanders or Leslie Howard. I’m tired of the whining of the female voices.
There are times when a female voice on the radio net is easier to hear and understand. Has to be the right female voice, though. Maturity helps.
Beth Mowens sounds like a mom who volunteered to fill in for the announcer at her sons high school football game.
