Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Reboot: Joss Whedon Reinventing show, with African American lead

The hellmouth is opening again. 20th Century Fox has confirmed that a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot is being developed. Original creator Joss Whedon is working with Monica Owusu-Breen (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) on a brand new story.

This “Buffy” won’t be a continuation of the original series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, but will feature a brand-new Buffy, who will be African-American. There’s no network attached as of yet.

Besides Whedon, original executive producers Gail Berman, Fran Kazui and Kaz Kazui are also behind the revival (and Berman’s The Jackal Group partner Joe Earley is also attached). Fox 21 TV Studios is expected to pitch the new show to cable and streaming outlets this summer.

A cool cannon spin-off would be a 1970s based version with the black slayer they showed in flashbacks; her son grew up to become the vampire fighting black principle of Buffy’s time.

They ought to go back to the 1970s slayer. She’s black, lives in New York City in its darkest days, single mother, and kills vampires.

They did, and they ruined it like they ruin everything.

#6. Well, she might “trans” form into a bat. Is that close enough to be called a “transwoman”?

And where will she live, in Sunnyhood?

Monica Green isn’t an actor.

She’s a producer. Let’s dial it back here.

Absolutely avoid. The man is unhinged. Vile and hateful. Loved Buffy and Firefly, but now will not give this kook any more money.

Firefly was greatly influenced by his partner who wrote with him. I forget the writer’s name tho.

I new slayer series taking place in a different era would be awesome!
The 70’s slayer would be watchable but we all already know how her story ends (Spike killing her and her son growing up to kill vamps too) so the writers would have to work extra hard to avoid the lull of the audience already knowing the end game. The only way to keep people on the edge of their seats is to constantly put the lives of those she loves in the balance...
Except her son...since we already know he will always survive. Lol

My point was that they have TWO known black vampire slayers in cannon that they could build off of.
And that’s aside from Buffy’s “slayers in training” who were diverse in the 1990s.
They could even do a hand-off of Buffy of the 1990s (Gellar) training a next generation of recruits and focus on a diverse cast going out hunting vampires.
Then “Buffy” isn’t black, but a lot of her trainees could be. Or the one she’s a Watcher for IS.
Whedon has MULTIPLE options that are within the universe and reason without appropriating what exists and over-writing it for the sake of liberal bullies.
His approach doesn’t satisfy liberal bullies who want to tear it all down because anything contrary to their dogma is to be erased, and it screws over the fans.
Yes, I liked Buffy, and I watched “Angel”, too.

Buffy was the first (and remains one of the few) series I bought on DVD. I was impressed by Joss Whedon and Marti Noxon. That continued through Angel and Firefly.

Now he is spiralling downward personally and professionally; his debauchery has caught up with him. (I recall thinking his cameo on Veronica Mars seemed oddly creepy to me; I did not know then this self-proclaimed feminist was an exploiter of young actresses.)

One cannot duplicate creative magic like this. A continuation, with the new Potentials/Slayers... maybe. A reboot to please the Cultural Communists... no.
His retouch on Justice League worsened it. He lost Batgirl

[continued]

He lost Batgirl. Now he is trying to recreate the past, instead of starting fresh.

Like all the Hollowhead libertines, he needs to repent. Not likely.

I loved the concept, and loved Kristy Swanson as Buffy, but the movie was compromised by the studio, as Whedon later said.

I loved the Buffy series though I didn’t watch it until we had Netflix. I kept reading all this fan stuff about how great the show was.

So I watched it & while the 1st season was iffy in places, the writing & the acting keep me around for season 2 where the show really grew into something special, IMO.

Will wait to find out how gay they make this reboot before I commit to watching it.
