The rounds from Doubletap were:
180gr Bonded Defense - 1300 fps, 5” bbl
For Bears protection:
10mm 230gr. Hardcast Solid Wide Flat Point Gas Check -
Ballistics : 1120fps / 641 ft. lbs. - Glock 20
1008fps / 519 ft. lbs. - 100yds Glock 20
1075fps / 590 ft. lbs. - Glock 29
I remember the impact that Don Johnson / Sonny Crockett had on the firearms world with his Bren Ten.
And I was 5 at the time.
It was such a neat question, and a good conversation. I still think that the .40 holds everything for everyone.
I can just about duplicate those numbers with a 357 SIG. I have a NOVAC conversion Browning Hi-Power in 357 SIG that runs about 575 ftlbs with a 115 gr jhp. I can even surpass some of them with the 125 gr running around 1475 fps, it carries just over 600 ftlbs. No it’s not a load I would choose for bear size critters but it’s more than enough for anything I’ll run into here in west Texas. Several large feral hogs can attest to it’s power. The smaller 100 gr pills I can push just over 1600 fps and those things are flat shooting and tend to be quite messy on anything under 25 lbs.
