Synopsis: A rabid beaver attacked a man and his young daughter kayaking down a river in PA.

The father beat the beaver with a pole until it gave up on him and bee-lined for the daughter. Father goes in the water to protect daughter and ends up beating the beaver to death.

Video of the attack

Story excerpt:

A peaceful day on the water turned to terror for a father and daughter in Pennsylvania.

Dan Wherley explained to Fox 43 that he and his 7-year-old Layla were kayaking on the Conewago Creek in Adams County when a beaver took to viciously attacking his brand new kayak.

"Get away cause it's a beaver!" screams Wherley in video he caught on his cell phone. "Get the (expletive) away. Get away you (expletive)"

"I looked, and it was a beaver scratching at it, and I thought 'wow, that's pretty cool- a beaver came up to us! It wouldn't stop, so I used my paddle, tried to hit it to get it away, and it just wouldn't stop, wouldn't stop," explained Wherley.

After realizing the beaver wasn't going to quit, Wherley fought back with what he had on hand: his paddle.

This prompted the beaver to head for Layla.

I see a series of rabid beaver sci-fi
movies on the horizon.
So far it’s been;
Rats, birds, snakes, giant rabbits,
roaches, crocodiles, piranhas, sharks,
and bats.

I read about a woman who was hiking near the trail head and a raccoon attacked her. She ended up having to drown it in a puddle; it would not let go. Tested positive for rabies too. Good grief.

Rapid Beaver would be a good name for a punk band.

The beaver was probably 65 years old. I tell my wife I should have got a pet coon. The older the coons get the meaner they get. We’ll the beaver get that way too. I’ve thought about beating my wife with a boat paddle but she’d chew it up along with me. It’s all sides.

It takes more than a pole to beat off a rabid beaver.

Beaver “Aw, you’re not gonna squeal, are ya?’’

Wally “’Course I’m gonna squeal. Ya did it, didn’tcha’?

Dan is all set for the winter now.

And he earned it with his bare hands.

If I am in a kayak or canoe or any other watercraft, I believe I could repel any beaver, anytime, even a rabid one. I also think I would not have to engage the beaver hand to claw, paw, foot, teeth (whatever beaver use to attack). It says right hear, I would win that battle, even if the beaver is rabid.
