Russia has unveiled a terrifying 4.5-tonne bulletproof robot that can walk and hold weapons in its giant claws and looks straight out of sci-fi films like Avatar and Robocop.
The robot can walk and has space in a cabin for people to sit and operate the robot from inside and can hold and move objects with its claws, including weapons.
The pilots are protected from bullets, debris and any other dangerous object behind the armoured glass and metal encasement.
The gold robot, which has been called Igorek, is still under construction and the creators do not wish to reveal all its characteristics until they have finished.
It looks eerily like the Amplified Mobility Platform (AMP) mech suits that humans use in James Camerons sci-fi classic.
In the 2009 flick the Pandora Utility Suit is used by the army as they try to take over the Navi.
While Kalashnikov are remaining tight-lipped on any further details at the moment, Igorek is likely to be used to magnify soldiers strength while providing protection from military and environmental threats just like the AMP suits in Avatar.

Need to figure out a way to douse it with 20 gallons of gasoline.
I think Putin is yanking our chain by building movie props. He’s enjoying watching the John Brennan-types who infest our intel community freaking-out about it.
No kidding.
Mech Warrior!
A great video game back in the day. Always loved the THUMP, THUMP, THUMP, from walking. When I was done playing I would still get up and it walk away and still feel the THUMP
This is why Russia cancelled the PAK-FA and Armata...
I was thinking of the hovertank from Robotech but not as impressive.
I think Putin is yanking our chain by building movie props.
Agreed, the thing looks ridiculous. I bet the guys at DARPA are laughing their heads off.
Looks like the A-10 may get a new life. One shot kill into the glass.
And like many military things Russian the first will work well, the second not so much, and the third fall to pieces.
Watch out for the steel cables...
Oops, fell down.
It’s not a robot.
It is a vehicle.
People man it.
Will this thing walk faster than a turtle?
You make a good point...
Russia’s economy is the size of NY State’s...and they’re about to get a solid hit from sanctions. Their population is, at best, stagnant, and they are losing a lot of their best young people (the ones that innovate and produce babies) as they realize that there is no real future there.
Until and unless Putin or other Russian leaders stop spending so much money on useless military junk (junk because it is practically unusable - they can’t invade NATO nations without starting a world war, they can’t invade China without starting a world war, and they can’t invade the Mideast without starting a world war...and neither NATO nor China actually wants to invade Russia, and doing so will start a world war. So it is unusable junk), and get rid of a lot of the corruption, and start doing business deals with the prosperous nations surrounding it, Russia will continue spiraling downwards. For that reason, I’m not worried about some modestly impressive military props. Russia is Mexico with nukes, and they can’t use the nukes.
A return to Soviet era planning where the development grant was based on total weight of the robot.
Putin must maintain employment
The only exportable products consistently worth a damn are miitary related. If they end that employment, the population will once again resort to vodka.
To get out of the hole, Putin must sell military hardware.
Bwaaaa! No guns! Plexiglas housing. This s not an ED209! This is a Al Frankel Groper 100!
It could look sillier. Michel Dukakis could be sticking out of the hatch.
