These two put themselves in horrible legal jeopardy. If you already have a gun and someone is threatening you; if you leave and come back with a gun, you no longer can claim you were standing your ground. You also can be thought of as having shown intent.
The best move for those two was, when back at the house, would have been to retrieve the firearms and made ready (just in case), and then to have sat down and popped a beer.
If I read correctly, the father was armed when he went outside, but the son is the one who returned to the house to retrieve a shotgun.
I find it very curious that the two men got out on such a nominal amount of bail. Perhaps there is more history to this than the paper lets on.
Everyone's happy, and alive.
Interesting. I watched with the sound off. I was simply looking at the body language.
The problem I see from viewing it with the sound off is that the son escalated it (from a viewing without sound. I am going to go back and view it with sound afterwards)
It has always been my opinion that when you have a firearm, it is your job, unless you are being actively attacked, to de-escalate a situation or remove yourself from it if you can’t de-escalate it. Last thing you want to do is escalate a situation to a point where you have to shoot someone when your life wasn’t in danger, or you have provoked someone to the point you have to shoot them.
I had an incident at a Sarah Palin rally back in 2008 where I had a leftist getting right up in my face, and because I was carrying...I couldn’t allow myself the luxury of escalating it and ending up in a fight.
That isn’t an easy thing to do, especially with someone who is pretty obnoxious and literally in you face. And he had a bunch of people with him recording, they were obviously trying to goad me into something. It was indeed hard to keep my cool.
I found out later, watching one of the Veritas videos, that this is a tactic the Left uses.
