I did not see her wearing hearing protection. I find that even with hearing protection, firearms are painfully loud. Anyone firing guns needs to protect their hearing.

I've never been able to get those in the ear type to work for me. I wear huge Mickey Mouse ear protection. A bit late, though, because I ran the chainsaw a lot and never wore anything for the ears.
I was a tough guy and loud noises couldn't hurt me. Well, it did. I have a continual hissing in my ears that makes it hard to hear what people are saying. Also, loud noises bother me much more than they used to. I fired a nailgun a couple times when I forgot protection and it sounded like a bomb.
My FIL was a cop and they never used protection on the range when they were younger. Same thing happened to him. It's good that people these days understand.
But, I still see young guys running those incredibly loud commercial lawn mowers all day, every day, all summer. Nail guns, too. Their are guys who still think they are tougher than noise.

Yes, loud noise and damage hearing, but some is also just age related.
