Not sure how you'd class VIPRE about taking over the machine. I don't think it does.

However, it does in the sense that WHENEVER you or anything tries to install anything--VIPRE asks your permission before it allows the process to proceed.

I occasionally get a note that it is not running and then I have to manually restart it but that only happens maybe once in two months or so.
