Also it affects the number of times your brain is bumped. You will get it bumped a lot more, and harder, if you play past high school.

I can’t understand soccer and don’t really care for it. I do agree they are in excellent condition tho.

My son played three years of HS Football. He was not 1st string after Freshman year, so think about this what you will. He loved it and said it was a great team building exercise. He wanted to play in HS, so we put him in Pop Warner in 8th grade. He didn’t often take bad hits and never was ‘injured’. There have been no repercussions and he is 31 now. I suspect college and professional football are far more injurious, but he was always mature for his age and weighed the risks for his participation. He stopped playing his Senior year in HS as he wanted to concentrate on his grades. Good luck with your decision.

Depends on how masculine your son or "daughter" is.

I forgot to mention that 400 meter hurdlers are probably the best conditioned athletes. It is the toughest event in track except maybe the marathon but the marathon takes odd body builds.

400 meter hurdlers look like everyone else. Well everyone else who is in top shape and is over 6 feet.

Of course, football, martial arts or even ballroom dancing if that’s what he was into.

If you understand the game, the strategy and skills of the players are amazing. At the highest levels of competition it is a compelling game to watch.

A very skilled player can kick a ball 50-60 yards and have it land at the feet of a teammate on a regular basis.

Do a YouTube search for Ronaldinho and watch a few videos of his skills. Probably the most skilled dribbler and passer, ever.

Grandparents don’t “allow” kids to do anything, that’s up to the parents.

It takes a village!

Yes. My oldest son played all the way through college. His only injury was noncontact in practice (ACL). He fractured his skull playing soccer.

My younger son played for 9 years with no concussions. He got three playing soccer (and he stopped that at age 12).

I am so sorry. There should have been a “Not Suitable For Work” warning with that post.

To: technically right

My daughter wanted to play, but in high school the size disparity was too great, I had to tell her no (other reasons too). If she could have played when she was younger, I would have let her. She thought all the boys she knew were weenies. She used to drag me out to the driveway to throw a ball, she has a great spiral.

She still bitches that I didn’t let her play.

Soccer is more dangerous than football. My daughter had to quit in her junior year due to concussions. She also broke her arm and wrist. My son played football for 10 years. Not so much as a scratch.

I played football (defensive back, punt returns) in college and high school (where I was also a running back and receiver). I had a pretty severe concussion in high school and then some minor ones in the rest of my playing days. Didn’t push my boys to play and they focused on b-ball. Mixed emotions on this... Now my grandkids are playing lacrosse which I also played in college... it may be the best alternative.

I worked for the Chief of Neuropathology at one of the world's most famous hospitals so I know a tiny bit about how they work...how they think...and what they know.

IMO the subject of repeated and/or serious head injuries is a subject for Neurosurgeons,Neurologists and Neuropathologists. It's beyond silly and foolish to make it a matter of patriotism..."the American way" etc, etc.

Many people...kids,young adults and older people suffer head injuries.Football, hockey, boxing, riding bikes, car accidents, falling down stairs and serving in the US Armed Forces are only a few of the ways one can suffer a head injury....or a number of head injuries.

Let the medical experts decide how good,or bad,an idea it is for kids...or adults...to play football. It shouldn't be a political discussion.

I only had one concussion that I am aware of and it was never diagnosed.

One day in high school practice, the coach got onto a guy in tackling practice to the extent that he went into a rage and began crying.

I was the unfortunate guy next in line. Coach Jones tossed me the football and I ran into him.

It felt exactly like he grabbed me by the feet and swung me to the ground head first. I saw bright lights, stars and red. I got up and tried to act like I was OK.

The guy btw was a 300 ponder. Also became one of our best players.
