The "Not secure" means that the site does not have an encryption certificate. Here's the URL for this thread:

What this means to you and me is that all posts/replies/PMs are sent in the clear (not encrypted).

Please disregard my previous post. FreeRepublic.com does have encryption certificate, you have to use the URL:

https://www.freerepublic.com/tag/*/index?tab=articles

My request for the site admins is to redirect any http://www.freerepublic.com/ to https://www.freerepublic.com/.

Even though I am using https://www.freerepublic.com, I still get a warning that embedded links may not be secure. That’s normal if those external links are Http://

If you want to be even safer, don’t ever log in to your computer with an admin level account to “surf”.

Ping for https login.

If you are logged in to http://www.freerepublic.com, log out, change any FR bookmarks/favorites links to https://www.freerepublic.com, and log back in.

Always use https (s=secure) if possible.

Note for those who use FR as a home page: Captive portals (in public restaurants, airports, etc.) will not redirect to a login page if you use a home page with an https URL. If you try to connect to an http website while trying to log in to a captive portal, the redirect should work, but if you use captive portals frequently it may be simpler to just change your home page to an http site.

Hope I remember my password.

You can just reset your password before you log off if that worries you. It is a good idea to reset your passwords occasionally.

"Sounds like you blew out your master cylinder..."

It could also mean that their pycometer has somehow become disconnected from their transargulator.   When that happens, the only solution I'm aware of is to follow the instructions explicitly spelled out step by step in this youtube video.

You’re correct. Main page is fine. I get the possible non-secure links warning when I look at an article that has them. This is nothing new. At least for me. I’m using Firefox atm.

I just re-ran the SSL Labs security tests and it still gives the FR website the security grade of ‘A’, its highest rating.

The word ‘secure’ on the log-in page has nothing to do with the site being secure. Look up HTTPS on Wikipedia.
