On the Ground Report: Virginia (9th CD)

Posted on 11/06/2018 7:26:37 AM PST by SarahPalin2012

Our precinct is about 60-40 favoring R. We do not have what would be considered a competitive race this year, as Corey Stewart is thought to have very little chance vs. Tim Kaine for Senate (though I think it'll be closer than people think), and Griffith the incumbent Republican congressman is thought to be very safe.

My son and I voted for Stewart and Griffith, and as I handed in the paper ballot I asked the poll worker about turnout. He said "very high" as already about 25% of our precinct had voted by about 9:00am. It didn't take us long to vote, and line was only 3-4 people and moving fast, but there was a steady stream of people. Rain is drizzling here. I wore white and my son wore blue and white stripes (we weren't trying to make a statement with clothing).

Wife and I voted early last week here in Cobb Co. GA, NW Atlanta Burb. 90 minutes from when we got in line until we walked out after voting. Couldn’t have been a longer wait if we voted today, however, the weather was beautiful last week when we were in line, it’s been pouring at times this morning.

I’ll be voting in my Gloucester Point precinct this evening; It’s generally a 65-35 Repub location, as is much of Gloucester County.

Any idea as to who is causing the “high” turnout? Rs or Ds? Turnout in my suburban Baltimore precinct was low at 8:45 this morning, but it was POURING down rain. My precinct has a large chunk of black voters, but the 20 people I saw at the polls this morning were all older whites, mainly guys. FWIW.

I live in VA 11th District (Fairfax). It’s been raining all day. There was no line when I arrived at 9AM.

My guess is that both sides are having higher than usual turnout, but that R is slightly higher. That is just a guess. My precinct is probably following the general political affiliation of the area, so I'm guessing high turnout maintaining about 60-40 favoring the good guys in our precinct.

This is what makes me doubt all the polling. They have GA 6th as a “toss up”. I just do not see dark red Cobb electing a D for Congress. heavy turn out in Cobb does not suggest it will be close.

Cobb went for Hillary in 2016, so who knows. I read that the dems have been working hard to flip it, including relocating “refugees” there. But I think with the crackdown on voter fraud it should go red

Trump got only 50.1% in Cobb, hardly a solid “red” county anymore — it was great back in the 1980s, but not lately. The portion of Cobb in the 6th CD is the most Republican part, the rest of the county went for Hillary, but even the 6th CD part is marginal now.

The part of Gwinnett in CD 6 is.... ugh.

Yeah at the same time Cobb elected Handle easily over $50 million Osseooff in a special election and went overwhelming for Issaccson in 2016

Clinton winning Cobb in 2016 had more to do with the Never Trump movement hold on traditional GOP-e voters then it did about the district changing.

Correction: Trump did NOT get 50.1% in Cobb, he got 45.8%. Double ugh.

Where do you vote? I vote in Glenvar (Roanoke County) and I was blown away by the turnout.

I could tell it was “our crowd” when they asked me for my ID and I said, “they didn’t ask me that in Greensboro this morning”. The laughter was kinda reserved. When I was leaving, the democrat sample ballot hander outer thanked me for voting, and I responded real sincerely, “just doing my part to keep America great” to raucous laughter.
It’s going to be a great day. The only day I allow myself to watch cable news just to watch ch them wilt. Glorious.

Good point! I’d forgotten about that race. Yes, the never Trumpers were very effective around these parts. Even lots of church folks stayed home. I got into some heated arguments over that on Facebook, but most of those friends have come around now.

Saw it all across the South. GOP senators won states easily while Trump under performed significantly in GOP solid areas.

I think the last 2 years have laid a lot of those doubts about Trump to rest. The Polling groups are basing their models on the assumption that it has not.

We will see who is right tonight.

What ever happens, it will be God’s will. I just pray he has not turned his face from us.
