I use my iPad for web surfing, email, notes at meetings, simple spreadsheets, reviewing customer supplied art, and occasionally gaming.

My laptop is pretty much only used for photography.

I do my serious graphic arts on my Mac Pro.

So while it doesn’t “replace” my computer, it does help me keep in touch and do my job on the go.

Use Apple I-Work. Its more than plenty for all the basic stuff.

If you MUST use Microsoft Office or LibreOffice, get a PC or laptop.

I had to replace my old HP laptop. I looked at Ipad’s, Surface Pro’s, Surface Go’s, Dells, Lenovo, etc. I researched and had folks demo them all. I just recently retired. I don’t need a lot for computer. I already have a Samsung tablet.

I finally went with HP Pavillion x 360 13 inch laptop. I love it. I am glad I went with laptop vs. tablet. I learned a lot about changing technology. Like hard-drives are now mostly SSD’S (Solid state) vs. the old clanky hard drives. The sound on this laptop is amazing.

Can this I-Pad run Skyrim at 4k and at least 60 fps WITH MODS that require extensions?

If not, one should not confuse a Maxi-Pad with a serious device like a Desktop that has open source capabilities.

Did you know the iPad Pro is more powerful than the entry-level laptops lining the shelves at Best Buy?

Comparing sirloin with veggie burgers. How does it compare with laptops that cost as much?

Looks like a 12.9 Ipad Pro will run about $1000 at Best Buy. So compare that to a 17.3 inch Samsung touchscreen with 16 gigs memory, Intel i7 processor, 512 gig SSD at about the same price. The Apple might still win (or might not, I don't know) but at least it would be a roughly fair comparison for your money. But given the desire for some PR spin, why doesn't he just compare the Ipad to an Osborne or Kaypro? Bet the Apple would come off looking really good for his propaganda.

Does not work very nicely.

Just doesn’t compare. Not distinctive enough for various tasks.

Depends on what you want to do/how you use your device.

Internet browing, email, all kinds of apps, including word processing, spreadsheets, etc., sure.

But I think you’d want to add a bluetooth wireless keyboard.

And you will not be able to use windows programs, which I count as a blessing.

For work, I find it easier to continue with my Mac laptop, which hasn’t had a virus in 6.5 years, no malware, updates are free, updates always install correctly, no drivers to install or reinstall, and no tech help from India needed.

I connect my iphone to a 46” TV with a DVI adapter. It has a second port for a charger and you’ll need it for watching full length movies.

I bought the first 12.9” IPad Pro for this reason, and NO it has not replaced my laptop. Not even close. the biggest issue has been the need to touch the stupid screen constantly, since the Apple IPad keyboards have NO trackpads. Horrible and disruptive. Also the lack of a coherent file system, but I ended up just using DropBox.

Uh huh, but it won't connect to a device programmer, an RS232 connector, or a printer.

So, it depends upon what the computer was used for in the first place.

I had to search for the specs. Even then I couldn’t find things like CPU clock speed, or comparing the chip in that iPad to something out today.

The article gets 5/10, very basic search gets 6/10.

The product? Don’t care for Apple.

Not yet - iOS needs to be improved to take advantage of the new
iPad hardware platform. But it eventually will be, and the effect will be revolutionary.

If I could touch type at 40 wpm on it, and see what I am doing with a split screen for editing, while preventing repetitive injury, I would be interested.

If you can afford it, buy both.
