Clark County Public Health officials created an automated phone system to call people that may have been exposed to measles. That phone call will go out at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. In the past, nurses would call potentially exposed people, but they switched to an automated system because of the sheer number of possible cases.
At PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, security guards are posted at five entrances around the building to look for symptoms. They are advising children and people who are not vaccinated against measles to not visit the hospital.
Measles is a relatively rare disease, so it's been an interesting week, said Dr. Jason Hanley, the Emergency Department Medical Director.
The disease is extremely contagious and spreads through the air. The virus can last two hours after a contagious person leaves the room.
Hanley says they have seen a handful of possible measles patients recently. He says they reserved special rooms in their ER for patients to prevent measles from spreading to the rest of the hospital.

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
All of the “homeless” in Seattle bringing in measles, coupled with the un-inoculated “migrants” bringing tuberculosis should make for quite an interesting year in the Intermountain Northwest...
This is across the Columbia River from Portland/ Oregon, a few hours’ drive south from Seattle. Anyone know the demographics??
Plus the ignorance of the general population, Rule 1 Don’t let your kids touch items in waiting rooms. Rule 2 Never touch magazines they are filthy germ/virus carriers. Rule 3 use your own pen to fill out forms. Rule 4 Wear a Cough Mask and exam gloves if you need to use their stuff. Rule 5 proper disposal of contaminated tissues. TRY COMMONSENSE.
We are Seniors we Hunker down in the Flu season. Never touch anything in a doctor’s office either. Ear buds to listen to music or a book to read. Hand sanitizer.
Don’t forget to use those anti septic tissue and hand dispensers.
Measles kill two people a year, measles vaccines kill over two hundred. You buys your ticket, yous takes your chances...
Back in the day, it was a relatively common disease, and everyone got it when it went around unless they got it the last time.
I miss the days when we didn't have to worry about "childhood diseases," but now, I wonder if the substance of the vaccines has changed to the point that the cure is worse than the disease.
As I understand it, early vaccines used egg whites as a medium and now it seems the vaccines are passed through mouse brains. If the latter is true, I wonder when it started. And from there, I wonder if the Swine Flu (only flu vaccine I've ever had) is responsible for my CFIDS/ME.
I never thought about those things, and I do carry a cough mask, but now, I'll throw in some Nitrile gloves. And I'm going to keep your Rules! Thanks!

The big one for the last few years was Whooping Cough. Normally they will quote one of the parents in a news article but they never gave the names of the parents of the children, which was a sign that they were all of Central American origin.
The comeback is all due to Trump's racism!
All the doctor offices and hospitals in the region I live in, between Portland and Eugene, have hand sanitizer stations outside every rest room and at every entrance. Some of the hospitals and clinics I’ve visited in the past several years even have cough masks at entrances.
Of course, I am in the world capital of colds, flu and hay fever. A combination of long, cool wet winters and 360,000 acres of grass seed farms. Untold acres growing hay.
Some vaccines are worth the risk, especially for certain demographics but there are many that make no sense for a lot of the population...just as many bacterial strains are becoming antibiotic resistant, I wonder if our systems are being meddled with to the point we will have many more problems down the road before they "perfect" certain types of vaccines.
Measles is up in Texas, too. Invading crimillegals deserve the credit.
Measles Are Great Again!
It was around 450 people in the United States per year who died from Measles.
