Fort Collins, Colo. -- A man is recovering after he fought off and killed a mountain lion that attacked him during a trail run in northern Colorado... the man was running alone when he was attacked from behind Monday afternoon at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space, a mountain park some 66 miles northwest of Denver, near Fort Collins.
The runner, whose name has not been released, fought off the cougar, hiked out of the area and drove himself to a hospital.
He suffered facial cuts, wrist injuries and puncture wounds to his arms, legs and back. The bites were severe...
Wildlife officers searching the trail found the juvenile mountain lion's body near several of the runner's possessions. It will be taken to a lab for a necropsy...
Authorities didn't immediately say how the runner killed the animal.

Since 1990, there have been 16 wounds as a result of mountain lion attacks, and three fatalities in Colorado, CBS Denver adds. The last such attack in the state was reported in June 2016.

It's Colorado. He could've gotten to his needle in time and killed it with an overdose.

I meant large cities. Think NYC, Chicago, Baltimore. Places where the majority of wildlife consists of feral cats and rats.
Woody Creek IS in the Roaring Fork Valley and not far from Aspen therefore smack dab in mountain lion territory.
Fenced yards mean nothing to hunting cougars. Anything that can climb a tree or rocks to pounce on large prey wouldn’t consider a fenced yard any type of challenge at all.

“After additional investigation, including examination of the lion, we have confirmed the victim’s account that he was able to suffocate the animal while defending himself from attack,” according to a Colorado Parks and Wildlife tweet Tuesday morning.
I haven’t tried it, but I suspect that manually suffocating a healthy house cat would be associated with some difficulties.
Maybe the initial article did not include the suffocating information because they thought it was fake news?

He killed it by choking it. I’d never be able to get my hands around a large cat’s neck, so I am really wondering how he choked it. Maybe got a branch down on its throat and stood on it?
It was an 80 lb. young male. Must have been a poor hunter and so was starving and thought this guy was an easy kill, or it had a disease. Necropsy being conducted.
I would think that being up in the mountains, he must have been standing in the middle of a Middle East ammunition depot.
I guess it learned not to play with its food.

A woman in Canada jumped on a mountain lion and prised its jaws open to rescue her 7-year-old son as he was mauled in their backyard .
Kevin said that he started to cry when he arrived at the hospital, because his son was “covered in blood.”
