A key part of Jussie Smollett's story is not tracking ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.
TMZ broke many of the details of Jussie's story just hours after the attack ... the rope, the bleach, the statement by the attackers, "This is MAGA country" and also that his 2 attackers were white.
We have now confirmed, the 2 Nigerian men who were picked up by police at O'Hare Airport are black. Police say the 2 men are the same ones who were captured on surveillance video around the time of the incident.
Jussie told Robin Roberts this week, he's positive the 2 men on the surveillance video are the same 2 men who attacked him.
When we first reported the details of the story -- including Jussie saying the 2 men were white -- we were told twice, after we posted, it accurately reflected Jussie's version of events. We also spoke with our Jussie sources Friday and they reaffirmed he had said that day the men were white.
One of the reasons why it's so important ... as we reported, Jussie says the men hurled a racist epithet and screamed, "This is MAGA country." As you know, Trump reportedly made hateful remarks about African countries, calling them "Shithole countries."
The 2 men were both extras on "Empire."
We have asked one of Jussie's people if he knew the 2 men ... the rep said she did not know.

The left can never explain that if those African and Central American countries are not sh*thole countries, and if this is Trump’s racist, white-supremacist AmeriKKKa, why do all the people from Africa and Central America want to come here?

Which key part?
A) The two white guys in ski masks recognizing a nobody who no white person has ever heard of at 2:30 AM?
B) The fact that they were cruising the streets in a dangerous area at a dangerous time carrying bleach and laundry cord for no reason?
C) The fact that they were wearing red MAGA hats at a time and a place where that could get them killed?
D) The fact that they called him n***** and f***** when, as I said, the odds of any white person knowing who he was, never mind two random and obviously disturbed white people, were almost zero?
This story was so obvously a lie that it is a disgrace that it was investigated at all, and saying that a key PART of this entirely absurd fairy tale is problematic just lends undeserved credibility to the rest.
Yet there are still folks who believe him. If you dare to look at some of the Left’s forums, they believe him and think the cops are framing him. It’s a sad situation for the cops doing yoeman’s work..............
They were extras on the set... he wanted to get to know them... to see if he could somehow further their careers...

If the pictures I’ve seen are accurate, they’re not Jussie Smollett black, they’re Yaphet Koto black, almost Miles Davis black, so “I thought they were white in the poor light” isn’t going to fly.

I’m deeply horrified and saddened by the racist and homophobic attacks against @JussieSmollett. He is a kind and profoundly talented soul whom I respect with all my heart. The terror of racism and homophobia has no place in our society, it is the most indecent way to live...
...whoever did this, do not forget that you are nothing but hate filled cowards while Jussie’s talent and activism will continue to shine a bright light on to the world for decades to come.

Media reports anout the Empire incident being a hoax are unconfirmed by case detectives. Supt Eddie Johnson has contacted @ABC7Chicago to state on the record that we have no evidence to support their reporting and their supposed CPD sources are uninformed and inaccurate.

There is 0% truth that @JussieSmollett was going to be written off of Empire. This rumor is totally false. He is the third lead and one of the most beloved characters on the show. Writing him off the show has NEVER even been discussed.
