An earthquake in a mining town in North Korea was caused by 'artificial activity', it has been claimed. The 2.1-magnitude tremor was reported in the town of Pyonggang near the border with South Korea around Thursday lunchtime.

The 'artificial' quake had an epicentre close to the land surface, the Korean Times reported.
It comes amid reports that North Korea is restoring facilities at its long-range rocket launch site that it had dismantled as part of disarmament steps last year.
