One strange thing about the article is, anointing for the sick or dying does not use holy water, but it does use oil. Is this bad reporting on the part of the writer of this article or confusion on the part of the victim, who said the priest anointed her with water, and then used "lotion"?

Last time I was in the ICU, I experienced an extended bout of a well-known phenomenon called "ICU psychosis." I was paranoid and hallucinating. I remember bi and pieces of this quite well.

Is it possible this poor woman is an unreliable narrator?

Worth repeating:

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty in a court of law?

This is taking the “laying on of hands” a bit too far.

“But they do arrest people on the basis of an affidavit whether there is supporting evidence is another matter.”

Yes, and perhaps that would account for the delay in making an arrest in this case. The man deserves his day in court. But if he’s found guilty, both he and the Catholic Church should pay up. This $hit with some priests has gone on for all of my more than 78 years, so it seems that it’s long past time for some real action to stop it. The Clergy, Lawyers and The Press, have special legal dispensations, so when they are found guilty, the penalties should be severe.

You paint with a very wide brush. Sometimes it takes a long time to bring an indictment because there is no legitmate grounds. This is a single event in this man’s otherwise sterling career from a highly questionable source. The “hang the monster” crowd is already lusting for blood. Dastardly.

Excellent question. I guess I, too,, suffered ICU psychosis though (when I regained my senses) I chalked it up to the drugs they used to keep me in an induced coma for 11 days. My eyes would open and my brain would take in info to formulate the delusions that I reacted to after they woke me up and I stayed in ICU another 17 days. But then I continued to have much milder symptoms, ie, sudden fearfulness, for a number of weeks. In short, I think you may be on to something. I would have sworn quite credibly in a stack of Bibles that
My care providers were trying to kill me

A masochist says, “Beat me, beat me.” A sadist says, “Why? Why?”

Wouldn't the sadist instead say, "OK, OK!"

No, and therein lies the joke. The sadist won’t beat the masochist because that’s what the masochist wants. He wants the masochist to further dehumanize himself by explaining why he wants to be beaten. He takes sadistic satisfaction in it.

In 2015 I was in the ICU for 21 days, 16 days on mechanical ventilation. It was an E. coli blood sepsis with multiple organ failure: cardiac arrest, airway collapse, renal failure. They kept bringing me back.

I remember thinking (if it can be called "thinking") in a panic, "They're hurting you! They're killing you! FIGHT BACK!"

I remember trying to spit at, and head-butt, the respiratory therapist.

I remember grabbing for a nurse's nitrile-blue fingers and trying to bend them backwards and break them.

I remember thinking (not quite sure how to explain this) that they were trying to "fold me shut" like slamming a book shut, when they were just trying to change my position in the bed.

I remember a man dressed in blue looming menacingly over my face, and me (unable to move) wishing I had a knife under my pillow so I could stab him before he could fling me, naked, over his shoulder and carry me to a heliport...

Much later, when I was in my right mind, I tried to apologize to some of these good people, and they just laughed and brushed it off. "ICU paranoia. We see it all the time."

I learned something very important, I think, about the unreliability of the human mind in the throes of bacterial toxins, abnormal metabolites, and powerful therapeutic drugs.

I always say I almost died of SARS before SARS was cool. I was intubated but still lost 30 0pounds in 28 days... I was cooking. I couldn’t fight but tried to escape. They ended up tying me to the bed. The whole thing was sheer terror.

The masochist might find pleasure in revealing to the sadist the demented reasons why he wants to get beat up. :)

In all fairness it’s not just the Catholic Church. I recall when then Manhattan DA Robert Morgenthau prosecuted some of the abuse cases a conflict of interest issue arose. Apparently, a cantor at the Beth Emanuel Synagogue, which his family were members of going back 100 yrs was accused of abusing his nephew. Don’t know what ultimately became of that.

People are at the point - thanks to the Left - that we see a story like this, and just ASSUME he’s guilty.

I went through 12 years of parochial school. Most of the priests I had had been WWII gentlemen. Never a hint of ANY of the crap that’s being hurled at the priesthood now.

Are there some bad ones? Sure. The homos infiltrated and have caused great damage, as was intended.

But let the man have his day in court. If he’s guilty, by all means, charge him.

But our system protects the accused. And that protects ALL of us, from false BS being slung about.

It’s worth Fighting for.

There you go again, injecting reason, healthy skepticism, and logic into the discussion!
