It IS an accent, as such. But, as you state, there are slang terms that are peculiar to around here.

Tonic, for example.

Negative.

It is a slang. I realized this while attending church up there.

During Congregational Readings, EVERYONE spoke perfect English.

Tonic is the holdovah from the old CokaCola days when it was a coca syrup that really WAS a tonic.
