Ive yet to hear a pleasant east or northeast accent. To my California-raised ears, they are like listening to nails across chalkboard, they mangle the language so much.
I remember having a Bostonian in an English class once, who was one of those people who had an opinion on everything and was quick to share it. Every time she opened her mouth, I was stunned at the new and inventive ways she found to butcher even the simplest and most innocent of words. She verged on incomprehensibility.
I was called out in NY for having a California accent. I asked how they knew. They said Californians speak in a sing-songy way.
Go figure.
