Not a year ago, some other guy ate a big snail on a dare, got infected with some other weird disease, went into a coma, and died.

Snails that you eat, such as in escargot, are not only cooked, but starved for three days before they are cooked, in order for anything they ate to pass through them. When eating small things like a snail, people are eating their digestive system too, which includes what the snail ate.
