An American tourist who ate a slug on a dare was among three people recently infected with rat lungworm in Hawaii, according to health officials.
The three cases are isolated and occurred months apart, according to the Hawaii Department of Health (pdf). All three were visiting from the United States.
As the name suggests, rat lungworm is caused by a parasitic roundworm, Angiostrongylus cantonensis, that infects rats’ lungs. The parasite then finds its way into slugs, which are then eaten by rats, completing the cycle.

Not a year ago, some other guy ate a big snail on a dare, got infected with some other weird disease, went into a coma, and died.
Don’t eat weird, unprepared animals on a dare. You could easily get whatever messed-up disease does it’s carrying and put yourself in a hospital ward or worse.

WHAT? AGAIN?? Do these people read the news?? A guy died last year from doing just that, eating a slug! And my God, why the hell would you ever do that in the first place? I stepped on one barefoot when I was a kid, it took forever to get off. It was like superglue mixed with tar. I tried everything, gasoline, turpentine, and these lunatics ATE it??
