Maybe it's your diet that sucks. You cannot burn more energy than you consume and gain weight. You may not like the laws of thermodynamics, but that won't change them. You can blame weight gain on hormones, enzymes, insulin, a fat gene or sunspots, but that won't change the fact that you can't get something from nothing.
How much do you get paid by either big carb or big pharma?
The people in concentration camps prove my point not yours. But, it is a predictable strawman used by those without any depth to their knowledge.
Lol!
That’s the best rule of thumb, yes!
:)
You crack me up since you skipped over the relationship of insulin to carbs and why releasing insulin to process excess carbs results in insulin resistance.
“Maybe it’s your diet that sucks.”
Maybe it is your understanding of biology that sucks. If what you say is true, no one could eat a lot and not gain weight (like some of my friends). And no one would be able to gain weight just inhaling while walking past a bakery (me). There would be no such thing as metabolic rates, which we can measure and see how they respond to diets. People getting insulin injections wouldn’t tend to gain weight unless they also started eating more.
Frankly, your constant appeal to the laws of thermodynamics reveal your ignorance of biology. I’m sorry but you look really stupid trying to apply rules of thermodynamics that you don’t understand to human metabolism - which you also do not understand or even observe.
It is true that starvation will eventually cause weight loss and death. It is also true that someone removed from a concentration camp often gains weight back. ANYONE can lose weight on almost ANY diet if it is severe enough. Big whoop!
The challenge is finding a LIFESTYLE of eating that allows an individual to lose weight and keep it off. And it is undoubtedly true that MANY find a lower-carb, higher fat approach works well. Many of us find intermittent fasting works very well.
Then there are people like you who blather on about thermodynamics and weight loss, showing no understanding of either. You are embarrassing yourself in public.
But...if you LIKE being stupid in public, have at it.
Thanks.
You’re on! Number 34.
It’s funny. This little debate here reminds me of when my doctor tried to put me on Statins. From everything that I’ve seen, Statins are an incredible wonder drug. Virtually everyone who has used them, me included, has had side effects, of varying degrees. Yet somehow, the medical profession swears up and down that there no side effects (to speak of), and therefore everyone is faking it or lying about it). Incredible - I’ve never heard of any other class of drugs pull that off!
Anyway, the clown wanted to debate me! I knew enough that there was no way he was going to listen to a damn thing that I said, so I told him to simply get lost. People in any profession tend to build up an arrogance and resist (for various reasons), to the end, others telling them they might be wrong. It’s just a fact of life! But, eventually, the truth gets out, since ‘the resistance’ will run out of debating points.
Good thread, Bob. Please put me on your list.
You’re on it. Welcome!
I like that idea...but hell, they’ll come up with something else to ‘try out’.
Every couple of months I have a hot dog as an indulgence.
The closer to whole a food is the better it is for you.
Some friends and I were discussing diet and eating well, and someone said that it’s what you do most of the time that matters, not the occasional treat that you have.
And when they push it on us we can remember this: “No.” is a complete sentence.
I am not going to insult the cook by skipping their lovingly prepared dishes even if it is not what I usually eat.
If you are allergic that is different but some people make such a fuss over food. If you eat healthy 95% of the time you are ahead of the game. If you do something that gets you moving on a daily basis you are doing even better.
Mr Rogers...your comments WRT thermodynamics and biology are spot on. Thanks for taking the time to explain it.
IMHO, Keto/low carb is not just a diet. It truly is a LIFESTYLE (it should be combined with exercise).
Happy to have you - we’re now at 36 people!
Add me to the list please.
