Lisa Parratt, 33, was mortified when workout instructor Gary Randall, who goes by the moniker Buffmaster, told her that she was just too big for his boot camp program at UK-based gym Slimming World, which Parratt joined earlier this year.
The response over Facebook Messenger was devastating to Parratt, who has fought to lose 35 pounds since January. When she noted that to Randall, he replied that she still has at least six months more before qualifying for his course.(snip)
Im sorry to say I wont be able to help you at bootcamp, wrote Randall. Your way to heavy now.
Parratt then asked the obvious: If hes a personal trainer, cant he help people lose weight? He responded, Yes I do but you gone to far. He then added, Focus on the gym for at least six months then lets see where your at.
Not buying it, Parratt asked again for his reasoning.
Your just to big for my bootcamp thats all, he said. If you lose about five stone of fat [70 pounds] [Ill] be able to help you achieve your goals.
Parratt, who has anxiety and an emotional support dog to help her, told The Sun, I dont hide from my weight but I do expect a professional [person] delivering a professional service to give a better response than that. Why didnt he come over and have a quiet word with me when he saw me?
After spending a night in tears over the embarrassment, she ultimately decided to post the exchange on Facebook to raise awareness.
(snip)
Randall also talked to The Sun: She is a very silly woman. She is the one making herself look a fool.

The fitness instructor’s attitude is as bad or worse than her weight problem.
I used to make money by tutoring fellow students in college. I would decline tutoring the stupid ones — they would make me look bad. I only tutored the ones who could earn A’s, so I could sell myself as a better tutor and make more money. I also avoided restaurants that were not good at cooking food, auto shops that couldn’t fix cars, girls that smelled bad, etc, etc, etc. Reality sucks for those at the bottom — so you blame reality, not those at the bottom?
He says ‘To Heavy’
She says ‘Too Heavy’.
I’ve been trying not to see it, but I do every single time.
Maybe he should have put her through 20 minutes of a typical fitness routine. If she made it through with normal blood pressure, heartbeat and breathing, maybe she could do the class. If she honestly could not handle those 20 minutes, then she ‘too’ would have seen that this was not yet the class for her.
He could use more training on customer service, and spend less energy trying to act like a mystical Yogi wrapped in black robes, standing on a Mountaintop.
No. Nobody “deserves” anything from anybody else. That’s leftist nonsense. Conservatives value self-reliance and strength.
People who are fat and lazy don’t need coddling. They need a kick in the pants because their weakness hurts everyone else if they react to their lack of character but demanding altruism and empathy.
In the past 15 years people have treated “bullying” as a the worst thing in the world. But by forcing the strong to defer to the weak, we become a nation of weaklings and welfare moochers. We need to allow the strong to be strong. And we should allow weakness to have consequences again.

Obese applicant: I wanna be in your class.
Instructor: I don’t think you’re quite ready.
Obese applicant: Yes, yes I am.
Instructor, you need to do this, then when that’s done, call us.
Obese applicant: No I want in now.
Instructor: No. Good Day.
Obese applicant. HEY INTERNET, LOOK HERE!! DISCRIMINATION!!
Uninformed random internet dude: Wow, he’s a jerk!
Way way way too heavy.
“Mortified” after she “fought” to lose 35# and is still too morbidly obese for anything resembling a fitness boot camp.
She should keep at it, and thank him for possibly saving her from a heart attack. Regular gym workouts and dieting are far different from the boot camp descriptions I have seen - why is that difficult for her to understand?
Simple solution find another trainer who will accept her current weight. Hes not the only show in town. Hello....
Seriously. The amount of mean spiritedness around here often makes me wonder if I accidentally landed on DU.
What a splendid way to represent conservatism.
Her additional weight can destroy her knees and hips joints if she is doing the wrong exercises.

They do (or did 30 years ago...jeez, has it been that long ago?), and the recruiters' response was, "You do not meet military standards." Depending on your fitness level and motivation, they would either work with you, or tell you to come back when you met standards, similar to your response.
This gal won't be fat for long if she eats right and sticks with a good Crossfit routine.
I workout with a cute but quite hefty redheaded Scotswoman and she used to be last in the running WOD's.
No more. After only a month, she's turning into an animal.;-)
The trainer told her to focus on the gym for six months, and to lose about 70 pounds. If she is serious about losing weight, losing 10 pounds a month seems to be a realistic goal if she stays focused on her fitness program. She should do what he told her to do and work on losing at least 60 pounds over 6 months.
You all are disgusting. I honestly cant recognize FR anymore. Mean. Period. And you all know nothing about fitness while you sit at your computers probably hanging over in folds of flab. Too mean to say? Maybe. But take a listen to yourselves. Ugly. I know fitness extremely well. Everyone deserves help. Smh
You sound way too heavy.
Legitimately the correct approach to avoid enraging an elephant and inciting a charge from her lawyers.
Yep. Both tell her the truth, she is a fat pig.
One way is direct and the other one is for today's snowflake crowd, "Oh, honey, you are just pleasingly plump". Meh.
It’s all her fork’s fault! Why can’t she and everyone else understand this proven fact. The trainer’s message was right on target, and he probably isn’t surprised about the flak he is getting. He did her a huge favor but she is intent on killing the messenger. She also needs to fire her support animal because it does not seem to be delivering her from the realities of life.
My wife is obese yet her GP simply ignores this fact and never cautions her about her weight and what it is doing to her health. Her doc needs some training from this woman’s personal trainer. She had back surgery and the surgeon never said a word about her weight. She is now seeing a hip doc and he is mum on her weight so far. I like the honesty and fortitude of the personal trainer.
PS: I have not been mum with her but she ignores me because her professionals are gutless.
