I am so happy you all were here to point out I used a word incorrectly and I am sure you all felt great about yourselves afterward.

Knock off the butthurt and grow a hide, Freeper.

You used a non-existent word that is favored by illiterates. I pointed it out to you without inserting any snark or insult, yet you're insulted anyway.

If you're a conservative, you just might care about the preservation of our native tongue. Lord knows the public education establishment doesn't give a damn if our people are illiterate.

Well, I do, and so should you.

You're welcome.

Wow... Aren’t we the elitist?

There really is no call for that type of thing. We know what you meant. This is just a trifling busybody with nothing better to do.

Normal people can appear to be elitist to low life cretins. It's just a matter of perspective :-)

Seriously, though. What's "elitist" about wanting to preserve our mother tongue?

It’s they way you present yourself. You come off as extremely rude and petty, albeit educated. You’re probably a decent enough person, but people on these boards just want to be heard and not lectured to about their writing skills. If you’re not already teaching, maybe you should give it a shot, but leave us cretins alone. The English language will survive a few misspelled words or forgotten punctuation.

That's a minority opinion, and pretty much, an under the belt ad hominem attack. Most folks around here appreciate my efforts to help others with their grammar faux pas. I've been doing it for years now, with only about one in twenty expressing a negative reaction to it.

I guess you're among that one in twenty, seeing how I never even corrected your grammar on this thread. Maybe you're still upset about some English teacher who invalidated you in the past.

I knew it! The NEA strikes again!

May I suggest counseling to help you overcome that terrible trauma?

...I am on there alot...
No such word.

***********

Should be.

a lot - a parcel of ground. Real estate.

alot - a whole bunch.

I mean, if decimate can be changed to mean everyone got killed, why stop?

Just draw the line before clips vs magazines thing. A culture has to have some standards.

Meh... I served twenty years in the Navy, so I’m pretty much institutionalized already. I did try counseling once back in ‘92 though. Didn’t take.

One of the definitions of 'lot' is, a large amount. Illiterates invented the guttural term, 'alot'.

May as well write it as, "awholebunch". Same difference.

Eighteen years an Army brat. Counseling never took on me, either.

I consider you one of the elite, bro.

Although my standards probably aren't those of everyone.

They're much higher in a slightly different direction.

The clip vs magazine bit at the end should have given it away.
