Saying AR-15 is like saying you have a car.

More like saying you have a pickup truck, as opposed to a Ram, Ford, Chevy, GMC, or Toyota pickup truck.

Technically, I have an Anderson Manufacturing AM-15, since that is the model designation of the stripped lower that I built my MSR upon.

The rest is Palmetto State Armory.

I agree. We have a variety of semi-automatic rifles with magazines. I suppose to the average person unfamiliar with firearms that they all look similar.

We don't own any AR-15 style rifles. .223 projectiles reach such a high muzzle velocity that they need a “jacketed” bullet and it is very difficult to make those at home yourself.

I admit to having prepper type tendencies. we have several hundred pounds of lead tire weights. After I heat treat the bullets that I cast myself out of them, they can be seated in fully charged cartridges in an AK-47 style rifle. I can also use cast bullets in partially charged .308 cartridges, and even partially charged 7.62 x 54 cartridges. These bullets have a lower muzzle velocity, but have excellent knock down power because they weigh several times more than a .223 projectile.

The tire weights can be cast into a wide variety of projectiles, from pistol bullets, to shotgun slugs and buckshot, to rifle bullets. We live in a liberal state that is likely to tax the hell out of ammo in the future. Assembling my own cartridges is insurance mostly against that.
