We just moved to NC from CT. While NC isn’t where CT is at politically, I fear they may be headed that way. Maybe we go one more state down... looking at FortMill.
Fort Mills is up country and a very hilly area. I like to ride my motorcycle up there. Cooler in the summer. You may get some snow up there though. I’m down in Hilton Head at the bottom of SC. Very hot in the summer, but we have the beach.
SC is good place to retire (many tax deductions and exclusions), state and local taxes are low (compared to Ct). SC is gun friendly and the people are very friendly. I love it here.
