BLUE ÖYSTER CULT To Release New Live Album, '40th Anniversary - Agents Of Fortune - Live 2016'

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of its widely celebrated album "Agents Of Fortune", BLUE ÖYSTER CULT performed the seminal album in its glorious entirety at an exclusive concert for the Audience Music Network on Monday April 18, 2016 at Red Studios in Hollywood, California in front of an intimate audience of invited guests. The performance was recorded by an army of cameramen for a DirectTV special, that is now being released on CD/DVD, Blu-ray, and vinyl on March 6 via Frontiers Music Srl.

The intense creative vision of BÖC's original core duo of vocalist and lead guitarist Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser, and vocalist and rhythm guitarist Eric Bloom are complemented by Richie Castellano on guitar and keyboards, and the longtime rhythm section comprised of bass guitarist Kasim Sulton, and drummer Jules Radino. As a special guest, founding member Albert Bouchard appears on guitar, percussion, and vocals on selected tracks, which was a real treat for longtime fans of the band.

BLUE ÖYSTER CULT's fourth album, "Agents Of Fortune" was originally released in 1976 and went on to achieve platinum sales status on the strength of songs such as "(Don't Fear) The Reaper", which was easily the band's biggest hit. Tinged with a more commercial sound that preserves the band's heavy metal base, while exploring new and varied musical forms, "Agents Of Fortune" was the band's breakthrough album. Nothing they had produced previously prepared listeners for the level of sophistication the group found on "Agents Of Fortune" and it's both an essential document of the band and an iconic release of '70s rock in general.

I grew up with these guys. Used to own the double live album they put out in the late 70s.

Saw them something like 5x (gotta go check my ticket stubs).

Looking forward to this. ‘Pod

Saw them twice (at least) at the Palace Theater, Albany in the late 70s. Once at some rock festival held at a racetrack. Once in Glenn’s Falls. Can’t now remember the 5th time location.

I saw BOC at a county fair a few years ago. Foghat was the opening. I thought Foghat was better, actually. Anyway, it was a nice way to spend an evening outdoors.

True dat - The breakdown interplay between Albert Bouchard (probably the greatest unsung drummer in classic rock) and Buck is stupendous....it reminds me of Mahavishnu John McLaughlin and Billy Cobham on the song Dream from this album.

So let the girl, let the girl rock and roll.

Jimmy Page supposedly said that Buck Dharma was his favorite guitarist. Also, I think Buck Dharma is actually shorter than the late great Ronnie James Dio. I think he’s like 5 feet tall or something. I always liked his vocal better than anyone else in the band. Saw them on a split bill with Kansas a few years ago with BOC going first that night. We were dust in the wind after BOC. It was funny because you could tell who was there for Kansas vs BOC.

I have about a 15% hearing loss which is entirely due to a late 1970s BOC concert.

I've pretty much lost the entire high-end of my hearing thanks in large part to cranking too much BoC (among others) through my cheap, crappy stereo speakers in the 70's. Lost count of how many speakers I blew up too, LOL!!!

I saw them many times in the 70s and 80s. Big time fan. They were a very entertaining band for metal rock band. I loved the live version of “5 Guitars”. Shortly into the song, all 5 band members would strap on a lead guitar, line up across the stage in a row and trade leads back and forth among each other. It always brought down the house. That and Godzilla. (“Oh no, there goes Tokyo, oh no Godzilla.”)

Personally, my favorite album is the very first. Not a bad cut on it. Not to criticize any of the others.

I saw them in Florida at the Tampa stadium after their first album was released. They were quite good.
