I hang out at the Reddit cigar forums, and there are fifty stupid and/or insane posts for one good one. :-)

You can learn a lot, though, if you can figure out how to separate the wheat from the chaff.

I watched a presser from the governor of Oregon on Friday night. She had her medical staff around her. After listening I knew that there is no way this will be contained. They were useless. The left is totally incapable of acting responsible & since many states totally disregard anything coming from DJT (see illegals) they are guaranteed to do dangerous, incompetent things with this virus. So my plan is to get ready and ride things out from home. Best of luck to all.

From your link:

Most cases were classified as mild (81%; ie, nonpneumonia and mild pneumonia).

However, 14% were severe (ie, dyspnea, respiratory frequency ≥30/min, blood oxygen saturation ≤93%, partial pressure of arterial oxygen to fraction of inspired oxygen ratio <300, and/or lung infiltrates >50% within 24 to 48 hours),

and 5% were critical (ie, respiratory failure, septic shock, and/or multiple organ dysfunction or failure) (Box).1

Both "severe" and "critical" obviously mean a hospital stay so again about 20% will need to be hospitalized...which MORE than crashes the medical system if it becomes real widespread.

The Wegmans I go to sometimes after church was pretty busy today, far more than I’ve ever seen it for a typical Sunday morning.

I did pick up more meat myself, some of it we needed for the week, and some went in the freezer.

“After listening I knew that there is no way this will be contained. “

Some on this forum predicted containment lost...more than a month ago.

Feb 18 percentage above should be .6%, not 6%.

As soon as those kits are up and running we should have some a better picture of what we are dealing with. After any initial number shock, the public and the markets should be able to take a breathe.

Bad news is still better than fear of the unknown.

Today’s Corona response compared to 2009 H1n1 swine flu.

Trump shuts down travel to China before the first case of infection in the U.S. much less death. Obama does nothing until 6 months after first U.S. case and 1000 deaths in the U.S. Over the next couple of years 12,000 die in the U.S. from swine flu.

Dont remember Obama getting the blame. I bet things will be different for Trump.

Honestly, the death numbers from Italy and Korea are the ones we want to look at.

The problem with the China numbers is you had to meet the criteria: In the hospital, tested officially, and die in the hospital.

In China, there is no report on all of the causes of death.

And, not to put too fine a point on it...the new head of the CCP in charge of Wuhan declared there wold be no new cases in Wuhan. Or the area leaders would have to answer to her.

All points to consider...not saying you are wrong (like screaming at you), but I trust the West more than China.

(Tin foil hat on)Any possibility China is using corona-19 to exterminate some healthy people?

It's China.

Speaking of France, I found this interesting.

Sanofi, the French manufacturer of Tamiflu (5th largest worldwide), apparently has approval to sell it OTC in the US and has forged a deal with Roche (Swiss based and 2nd largest pharma ww) to be their distributor in the US.

The approval was won in July, 2019, with an expectation it would be available within the year.

We have societal and cultural advantages over China in regards to spreading between us.

1. We cover our mouths when we sneeze and cough.
2. Far fewer heavy smokers here.
3. We wash our hands.
4. We don’t tend to live in huge apartment towers with shared circulation systems.
5. I’d like to think we listen to some basic science over superstition - your mileage may vary.
6. We don’t eat family style from the same bowls/plates using dirty chopsticks.

But you’re not old enough to remember the Spanish Flu Pandemic (1918); and that’s what this is beginning to look like - a 100 year pandemic

This was posted previously on the 6 thread.

https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2762130

This is a summary of sorts. It is from the JAMA site, but it is immensely readable.

It describes the comparisons to SARS and MERS, and talks about how they are the same—and different. If I were a teacher leading a class discussion, this would be required reading.

I had been watching only the “not China” numbers too, just posted the totals from everywhere as they are interesting.

It seems that China, Iran and Italy are bad, but everywhere else is doing pretty well all things considered.

Sorry if I’m not panicked enough to fit in.

Great news, I'll buy some (SNY) as soon as I can verify.
