Just wondering if there are any Hams out there and what are you listening to?

I’m a licensed General Class HAM. My Astron 50amp power supply needs a new power switch, ordered it a few mins ago. Prior to it going bad there really hasn’t been much to listen to, the bands have been pretty dead here (Chicago area.)

I used to be a Net Control Station (NCS) for a few 40m nets, the biggest one being OMISS on 7.185.

Sitting here about 30 miles SW of Chicago and having a half-wave 40m Dipole w/2KW I was pretty well positioned to hear and cover the entire country.

Since moving into my townhome getting decent 40m coverage with an attic antenna has been problematic. 6-20m have been no problem though.

I miss 40m.

General class here, but mostly on vhf, haven’t been on hf in a few years. I have been thinking about changing that situation.

Good point, you don’t have to be a HAM to listen.

Georgia ARES has two GA Welfare Nets in Support of Coronavirus. An HF net at 7:00 pm EDT on 3971.0 mHz primary or 3923.0 mHz secondary. Also a D-STAR net will be at the same time on Reflector 030 B.

I am tuned in to 7200 right now like a lot of licensed hams who would never admit that. Have good friends on 1865, 1875, 3850, 3865, 3950 and 28807.

W5AMU

If you are interested in listening, look up websdr. They are web-based radio receivers around the world. You will need some basic understanding of USB, LSB, etc.

See http://w7rna.dyndns-remote.com:8901/
This is a station based in Arizona

Do you know if there are good internet-based SW receivers that could tune these in via a website interface? I used to listen on one site, don’t remember it’s name, tho.

I recommend using websdr. The Northern Utah websdr #1 is fantastic. NA5B sdr in D.C. is popular with people listening around the world.

3865 was normally LSB land. That must have been some strange group!

I recall our family listening to SW at night on multiband tuners back in the day. Radio Moscow was big in propaganda, but intersting to check out.

Same here...local repeaters pretty dead or else just BS. Have the makings for a great little HF station but haven’t put it together yet.
