We know the distribution of severities. But even if it were your 90%, where are the other 10% of cases and the bodies to go with them?

The flu still exists. Many people had flu-like symptoms such as you describe, often predating the identification of Patient Zero (myself included). It was likely the flu. Otherwise the hospitals would have been flooded.

Now, if it was some weak strain that somehow got out earlier than the reports, it probably wouldn’t matter, since there is no guarantee that one strain immunizes you against any others. NYC is ample evidence that if such a strain existed (can you imagine it didn’t get to NYC, somehow?) it did not confer immunity.

There is a lot of #WuFluMeToo going around It’s human nature.

Have it your way. I am betting that my own observations hereabouts are correct. What I see at the shipyard seems best explained by that. It is mostly mild but when it is not mild it is pretty dramatic. I think the first wave here was in late February because a couple of families returned from vacations in China about then. This town is a smallcity and there is no large city within a hundred miles so it is pretty easy to keep track once one starts to notice things. I am pretty sure an antibodies test applied to the whole population would show that this thing has infected a third or a half of everyone. Remember SARs in 2003. A Turkish village made headlines because a dozen or so people died of it there. Later, maybe a year, maybe two, an American researcher went to that village and tested everyone in the village for antibodies and asked the relevant questions and concluded that the entire village had been infected. The ones who died made the news and the flaming statistics.

The FluBros are out in force today. Many on other threads are posting defiant statements that they are going golfing or what not. And some are posting numerous threads about stuff that is already debunked, including flat-out lies by the likes of Jim Hoft from GP.

I read that there were cases on the west coast in Dec. and perhaps Nov. that might have been Covid. I think they have mostly gotten the S form, whereas Italy and NY have gotten the L or lethal form. Also I read that we had 80,000 flu deaths last year which is higher than the usual 30 to 70k. I wonder if some of those were early Covid. They should be reexamining some of those deaths.
