I like to say, and this is original me, that the Chinese are really good at making things that look just like the real thing...


You have said it very well.

Chinese manufacturing does only one thing really well - deceive the customer.

Cut apart a cheap ChiCom kitchen tool like you can get at your grocery store. You will find stainless-plated pot-metal held together by whale snot.

Chinese manufacturing is more like making a Hollywood movie set, than anything else.

The problem described is one of purchasing rather than manufacturing. If you buy cheap you get cheap.

There is very likely a more expensive version of the same Chinese product available.

I’ve seen the videos of the two guys who traveled to the various deserted cities in China, buildings that were made just a few years before, falling apart

Yep. And they will put on labels that are entirely false. A number of years ago they got caught putting “formaldehyde free” labels on floor planking that was lousy with formaldehyde.
