An Excellent book, ‘Admiral of the Ocean Sea’, by Samuel Eliot Morison.
He Researches in Spain, Italy, then sails Columbus’ route. He uses the descriptions of headland sightings to establish his locations.
Fascinating book.

Columbus’s first landfall, San Salvador Island in the E Bahamas.

In order for Columbus to buy sex slaves, someone had to sell them. Can we condemn that person while we are at it?

What’s False

However, the specific quotation offered as evidence in a widely shared meme, although accurate and authentic, came from a longer passage written by Columbus. In context, Columbus was neutrally describing the specific practice of buying and selling nine-year-old girls, and in that particular letter, he neither endorsed it nor condemned it, nor admitted to personally taking part in it.

That's what the Muslims really thought, since an Israeli was on board.

And of course, the drive-bys made a point of talking about Palestine, TX in the coverage of the disaster.

What’s True
Ample evidence exists to show that Columbus was responsible for forcing thousands of natives on the Caribbean islands into slave labor, as well as seizing, selling, distributing, and exporting many native women and children, with either foreknowledge of, or indifference to, their fate as sex slaves.

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/columbus-sex-slaves/

Snopes also noted: The quote attributed to Columbus in the meme is accurate and was taken from a letter he wrote in 1500 to Doña Juana de la Torre, a nurse in the royal court of Queen Isabella...

The letter referred to by Scott Dawson, an historian and author, referred to a letter written to King Ferdinand...

Dawson’s book, “The Lost Colony and Hatteras Island” deals mainly with the Outer Banks of North Carolina and reaches only generally into Columbus’ adventures in the new World...

You would need to contact Dawson to get detailed information...

I just read the book...

Snopes is not always factual. There is plenty of info out there that says what you claim is not true. The enslaving of people had already existed and Columbus did not personally make this happen. The powers in Europe made that happen. I will always honor Columbus as a great adventurer and explorer.

I once saw a movie called How Tasty was My Little Frenchman. It was based on a true story (allegedly) of a Frenchman who was shipwrecked on the coast of Brazil in the 1500s, taken in by a local tribe of Indians who treated him nicely for a year, then had a feast where they killed and ate him.

Jesse Jackson's birthday is October 8th. When he dies they can rename Columbus Day Jesse Jackson Day.

Some Afrocentrists claim that Africans reached Mexico long before Columbus. The evidence? Some Olmec statues show people with large lips.

And afterwards, all the Indians were sitting around and one burped and said,

“Nice guy, but a little stringy.”
