The Who at their best. I know I will get some gruff for this, but Keith Moon was the best drummer of that era.

Speaking of Ginger Baker, I watched Blind Faith in Hyde Park early in Covid, but after I upgraded the TV and sound system. Worth a watch. Full concert.

I would not argue. And you might like the Blind Faith link I posted in the thread.

Here’s another one...

“A Quick One While He’s Away” live.

Nowhere near their best song....but one of my favorite performances.

” but not in the league of Ginger Baker IMHO”

Agreed.

I’m also a big fan of Stewart Copeland.
Totally different style and impact, but musically, very compelling.
Makes you want to tap your hands and feet and watch for changes.

Concur, from The Rolling Stones 1968 Rock and Roll Circus Taping. It was supposed to be aired on the BBC soon after the Show, but the Stones withdrew it from being aired. Not until 1996 was a cleaned up version released. Pretty much the universal opinion was it was held back because the Who’s performance blew away the Stones performance.

No flaming from me. Love Keith Moon. Sometimes I embarrass myself flailing away at air drums and whacking invisible cymbals in my truck when I hear Baba O’riley being played. He had a style for sure.

I watched it all the way through. Big fan and particularly of this song. Thanks for the post on this. Very much enjoyed the watch.

Best Rock & Roll drummer of the era.

Worst Holiday Inn guest of same era.

Didn’t Joe Walsh pay tribute to Moon in “Life’s Been Good” first verse?

I have a mansion but forget the price
Ain’t never been there, they tell me it’s nice
I live in hotels, tear out the walls
I have accountants, pay for it all

My favorite Who verse is

I woke up in a Soho doorway
A policeman knew my name
He said, “You can go sleep at home tonight
If you can get up and walk away.”

I staggered back to the underground
And the breeze blew back my hair
I remember throwin’ punches around
And preachin’ from my chair

Here’s a killer movie scene that uses a snippet of Magic Bus from Live at Leeds to perfect effect. I read somewhere that Scorsese was very particular about which Leeds version of the song he wanted for the scene.

This 1969 version of "A Quick One" from the London Colosseum is my favorite. The banter before the song is exceptional. Moon's telling Townshend that he looks like "a bloody plumber" in his boiler suit is only topped by his Persian comment (which has multiple meanings and, if you listen carefully, I think Daltrey cannot stop laughing). The video cuts out toward the end but the audio helps prove that they were untouchable as a live act in their heyday.

Looks like Moon and Townsend didn’t always see eye to eye.
