Surge in Louisiana COVID cases traced to Delta variant, low vaccination rate

A startling new surge in cases suggests that Delta is established in Louisiana and the previously beaten-back virus is once again on the rise...

Over the last week, cases have increased by 3,360, the biggest spike since March 4, the tail-end of the winter surge. Cases have more than doubled over the last 14 days, likely an effect of the more contagious Delta variant making its way into unvaccinated hosts.

Delta is now the dominant strain in the U.S., making up 52% of new cases. In Louisiana and neighboring states, it is responsible for up 59% of new cases.

With one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country, Louisiana residents have a higher risk for coronavirus infection. Just 39% of the population has received at least one shot, behind only Mississippi. Nationally, the rate for vaccine initiation is 55%, with states like Vermont, Hawaii and Massachusetts now over 70%.

Experts said people hospitalized by the virus are unlikely to overwhelm health systems in Louisiana as they did in the past. Deaths and hospitalizations, which lag a few weeks behind surges in cases, will still rise, but at least some of the population -- including most seniors, who made up the majority of deaths before vaccines were available -- are protected by the vaccines...

Since the vaccines became available, over 99% of coronavirus deaths in Louisiana were in people who were unvaccinated. Just 27 of the 3,920 deaths were among people who were fully vaccinated, (Dr. Joe) Kanter (Louisiana Assistant Secretary of Health) said Thursday.

But basically, it's the youths who are coming down with the bug. Their case fatality rate is a fraction of the average.

Lets say this isn't rigged data. The next question is....so what? The kids are probably getting the bug because they are BEING KIDS!!!

Will we also see the data about declining depression, better outlook on life, and not feeling like This Is The End?

The fact that a person who is fully vaccinated does not count as a “case” of COVID-19 unless their PCR test shows a positive at 28 amplification cycles or fewer AND the person is either hospitalized or died … while an unvaccinated person counts as a case with a positive PCR test with any number of cycles ( no need for symptoms) does not seem like sound science to me. It sounds like a cover-up.

Until we know how many amplification cycles are used on these “cases“ of unvaccinated people I don’t believe a single word that comes from our government or the CDC.

If the CDC had used the 28 cycles or fewer and symptoms(not even requiring the extreme of hospitalization or death), worldwide economies and schools would not have been shut down anywhere near like what they were. The top 1% got richer and richer during this pandemic while people who own or worked in small businesses got poorer and poorer.

I don’t care about ‘cases’. The PCR tests produce too many false positives anyway. Nobody has claimed it is any more deadly or that the vaccines & treatments for COVID aren’t effective.

Cases though still low but are on the rise as are hospitalizations. Mercifully, the daily death count has come down, but given the upward move in hospitalizations, that won’t be far behind.

Riddle me this, why did Israel, the country with one of the world’s highest vaccination rates ( mostly with the mRNA vaccines ) experience a surge of cases from the Delta Variant? A huge number coming from those already fully vaccinated?

Yes, cases surged to 518 yesterday compared to 8,500 daily before the vaccinations.

As all the medical professionals have said from the beginning, none of the vaccines are perfect, but some seem to be really, really good at preventing severe disease.
