We‘re both retired but yes, he fixes the tractor and the cars and we do take care of each other. A good man to grow old with.

If the husband is right, then you run interference for him with whatever you have in your bag of tricks to get the job done.
If the husband is wrong and the person attacking him is also wrong, as long as your family, yourself, or your community are not harmed (by his viewpoint), you attack the person attacking him.
If your husband is wrong and the other person is right, your job is to not get in the way of him learning something, but to also not let him be harmed. There is a fine line between humor and sarcasm, and its the same line you will be dealing with here. Humor is ok, sarcasm is not.
If you have no idea of what the heck is going on, go do something outrageous (and fun) to draw fire onto yourself (and provide a distraction) and see if he takes up for you.
Don’t expect a wife you refuse to defend to take up for you.
