Has anyone else been experiencing a pet food shortage? I see the shelves at pet stores and pet supply stores have empty spaces, especially for kitten food. I used to be able to find Purina ProPlan kitten food with no problem, but lately I can only find a couple of flavors--of course, the ones my kitten is not particularly fond of. I also tried Chewy and Amazon, and their selection of PPP kitten food also consists of only a couple of flavors. Let's go Brandon!
I heard that about tuna too, it is good for a stop gap but not for a long term solution. Before I lost Rascal, my cousin was giving me advice on how to make your own pet food.
It was impossible to score Fancy Feast Savory Centers from Chewy last year, but since they have imposed a limit of two; there haven’t been any issues. Raw ‘meat treats’ haven’t been an issue, either.
Thank you, I miss him so much, now I have no one to come home to.
We’ve noticed that for a couple months. Shelves are practically empty every visit.
Sorry for the double post, using cellphone.
Should be high in protein, with vegetables, carbs, and a little salt to make them want to drink water. I cook lean ground meat or chicken, 2 lbs, 2 16 oz cans mixed veg, 2 15 oz cans pumpkin, 1 cup white rice, 1 cup rolled oats, ½ teaspoon salt, and 6 or 7 cups of water. I cook the oats and rice in the water, then add everything else. I should probably add in dried cranberries or use 100% cranberry juice for part of the water. The diet as written should acidify, but adding the cranberries or juice definitely will. I also give her shih tzu vitamin mineral chews about 3times a week, just in case she’s not getting enough with the diet. So far, so good.
You have to watch Chewy...they restock and sell out quickly with some items. They seem to have a decent selection of Pro Plan kitten products at the moment.
Wow. Looks like I’ll be cooking for cats in addition to Hubby.
That’s pretty much the same diet routine that our cats have.
Even if they aren’t hungry, they expect the rituals every day, on the clock.
Cats like things to always be the same.
EXACTLY the same.
Yes! I was buying Nine Lives Protein Plus for my rescue cats in Louisiana from Dollar General. Quit going there, gaping holes on shelves in cat food section. Same thing at Walmart. Can’t find protein plus anywhere. I started going to family dollar. Their shelves are full & have switched to daily complete, friskies brand, I think? They seem to be able to keep their shelves full, including kitten chow. Good prices too, better than dollar general. Fam $ has the iams & science diet as well, but too expensive for me - I feed feral cats too, so they get the friskies or 9 lives. Try a family dollar for your kitten chow, see if their stock is better wbere you are.
Yup. In my local Shop Rite in southern NJ it’s been like that lately. Never thought I’d see such a thing.
Can you provide some links to your claims please?
definitely not true. Publix is not closing and their pet food shelves are empty
...beef lungs are technically protein...

My Russian grandmother made lungen stew. Many cultures eat tripe. Luckily, people are adaptable. Better low-quaity protein than none.
The organs are very high in collagen.
Many of the raw materials for pet food such as basic vitamin and mineral additives are produced in China. Could be causing supply chain issues.
Wow—thank you very much!
You’re welcome.
Yup. This has been going on for a few months now. I’m in WA state and the cat food section is often empty or nearly empty.
