The cops directed them to drop the hammer.
Depape gained control of the hammer and hit Pelosi in the head.
Depape was tackled by the police and placed under arrest.

How could Pelosi open the door if they both had their hand on the hammer, wouldn’t that mean that the attacker had to walk to the door with pelosi?

All the wiggle room she needs to restate her story as needed.
