Robbie Knievel, the son of the famed stuntman and daredevil Evel Knievel, has tragically died aged 60.
The news was first reported by TMZ, which reports that a source close to the family revealed that Robbie Knievel had been receiving hospice care as he battled pancreatic cancer.
Knievel reportedly died on Friday morning (January 13), with his daughters by his side.
Following in his father's footsteps as a thrillseeking performer, Robbie rode his first bike when he was just four years old, and went on to perform at his father's Madison Square Garden show when he was just eight.
Throughout his career, he became known by the moniker of "Kaptain Robbie Knievel".
TMZ reports that Robbie performed over 350 jumps throughout his incredible career - cementing his legacy by setting world records for 20 of them.
In 2010, Robbie spoke out about his father's legacy, and highlighted how stuntmen like them are a "dying breed".
"I can never fill [my father's] shoes because he was the greatest stunt guy in the world - the greatest daredevil," Robbie said, per the Daily Record. "We are a dying breed but I'm proud to have been raised by one and to be one myself."
During the interview, Robbie recalled how his father once told him that he never wanted his son to become a stuntman following a near-fatal crash in Wembley, that left Evel with a broken pelvis and crushed vertebrae.
But, as it turned out, Robbie was just enamored with the career and his father's love of performing.
"I used to ride every day with my dad and he said I was better than him when I was 15. We did so many good shows together," Robbie remembered. "He was just a guy who came along at the right time.

Pancreatic cancer has a terrible prognosis. My uncle was diagnosed with it and died within a few months. Even Steve Jobs with all his billions could only stave it off for a few years. Prayers for his family.

He could have had surgery, and it would have increased his chances by a lot. Instead he wasted a lot of time until it was beyond help.
I remember his father was an idol to me and other kids in the neighborhood. We would set up the ramps and jump our bicycles. A good friend of mine who is actually a complete admirer of Evel Knievel Went on to launch a career jumping a motorcycle. He went by “Danger Doug.” Although he is now retired he actually has the world record for numbers of cars jumped. I believe he had the record for the most cars jumped with a bicycle as well, he did that while we were in high school. It was so easy the first time he decided to try a second since the reporter was there and actually crashed…

Over a few short years, Linda McCartney, Gianni Versace, Princess Diana and JFK Jr. - all rich enough to solve ALMOST all of life’s problems - died too young, too soon. It was a lesson that sometimes nothing can save you - from disease (Linda McCartney), from the evil of others (Gianni Versace), from the stupidity of others (Princess Diana via her drunken, foolish driver) or your own bad judgement (JFK Jr.). Just learned that a young man I’ve known since he was in grade school with my son has experienced an “eye stroke”, something I’d never even heard of. He just woke up one morning without sight in one eye. It may resolve itself, and it may not. Just another reminder to treasure our “ordinary” days...the most unexpected thing can come along and change your life forever.
I had a work associate whose wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, and she decided to go with the “twigs and berries” approach as well - macrobiotic diet, etc. A year or so later she died, leaving him with two young sons to raise. Despite his grief, there was a distinct undercurrent of anger at the choices she had made.
I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer almost 5 years ago. He fought it for 3 years, but he died of complications. So often the cancer itself isn’t the killer, but the body just breaks down and can’t maintain normal function fighting on so many fronts.
Pray that medical advancements progress to the point of making this cancer survivable, because the prognosis is often a death sentence.

I was attending a conference in Europe in 1997 when another American there told me that Versace had been murdered. I had never heard of him before.

I agree. IMO at the heart of it was stubborn arrogance. He thought he knew better than doctors.

Pancreatic Cancer itself, presents no warning signs, until it has metastasized to other organs or bone, and by then it’s always too late for saving someone.
Steve Jobs was a brilliant guy in business who made idiotic medical decisions. It's tempting to call people morons - but the reality is that one of our problems as a society is that we assume that someone who is whip smart in one field has transferable skills. Not necessarily! In fact, that's incredibly rare!

I think he believed his own press releases. Learning the basics about his form of pancreatic cancer takes about 15 minutes. In three nights of reading, a well educated person can hold an intelligent conversation with a specialist.
Ignoring established treatments and outcomes come from fear or arrogance.

I won’t attribute his death to the shots since I don’t know if he ever received them. I will simply say that the shots have been connected to the rise in cancer cases, and we’ll never be given the facts about the connection.
Reminds me of the old saying: "Live each day as if it were your last."
I had an auto mechanic friend who was feeling ill for a while so he went to the doctor and found out he had pancreatic cancer. The doctor gave him 6 weeks. He died in 3. He didn’t drink or smoke, and ate organic food. Rip Daniel
