Seven deputies have been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a black Virginia man who was pinned to the floor and smothered while in a state mental hospital.
Irvo Otieno, 28, was seen in security camera footage on March 6 being handcuffed by the deputies who pushed down 'every part of his body' with 'absolute brutality,' an attorney for his family said.
Otieno was being admitted to Central State Hospital and was experiencing mental distress at the time of the encounter. He had been arrested on March 3 for allegedly stealing lawn lights and was taken into custody due to his erratic behavior.
Ann Cabell Baskervill, Dinwiddie County Commonwealth's Attorney, called the surveillance footage of Otieno in the hospital 'extremely alarming' and claimed he was 'smothered to death' and 'died of asphyxia.'
The prosecutor identified the deputies as Kaiyell Dajour Sanders, 30, Dwayne Alan Bramble, 37, Bradley Thomas Disse, 43, Jermaine Lavar Branch, 45, Brandon Edwards Rodgers, 48, Tabitha Renee Levere, 50, and Randy Joseph Boyer, 57.
Three hospital workers were also arrested for Otieno's death and identified as Darian M. Blackwell, 23, Wavie L. Jones, 34, and Sadarius D. Williams, 27.
Otieno first came into the custody of law enforcement March 3 when police were responding to a burglary, according to a timeline provided by Henrico County Police.
Based on his behavior, officers put him under an emergency custody order and took him to a local hospital for evaluation.
Mark Krudys, an attorney for Otieno's family, said a neighbor called police over concern about Otieno gathering lawn lights from a yard.
Otieno's mother tried to de-escalate the initial police encounter and the family supported his being taken to a hospital, believing that he needed mental health treatment.

The media can’t ramp up riots when black victims are killed by black cops like the recent cases in Memphis. Not the same when you have a narrative to sell of blacks as perennial victims of white folk. They need white on black photos to get the city to burn or else the story has no legs beyond one news cycle.

A cousin of mine likes to brag that it once took six officers to take him down and get him cuffed, and he was sane/sober at the time. He says if they would have asked nicely, he would have done as told. The lady cop that booked him later said in court he was one of the most nice, respectful detainees she had ever had.

Well, this poor man. I always feel sorry for someone who gets killed by the people who are supposed to be helping them.
But one thing is really becoming clear to me here. All the racist yammering about incidents like this (or should I say anti-racist yammering?) deflects from the real issue of police malfeasance. Which might based on pop stats, affect a greater number of individual white people than black people, but I could be wrong about that, I suppose.
I remember one story from here at the Jersey Shore, some cop or cops slammed some 120 pound woman down in the sand. Don’t remember if she got hurt, but it made the news. Maybe she was drinking a beer and she was underage? I really don’t remember. But I remember thinking that a grown man should be able to control a woman that size without brutalizing her.
And that poor elderly woman who had her shoulder dislocated. Those “officers” were just sadistic and that is messed up. I know the old lady was white, think the Jersey Girl was too, or it would have been a much bigger story. Everyone on FR would probably know all about it.

But it obscures the fact that there’s another issue regarding these types of assaults and that is police misconduct. I have professionally encountered more LEOs that clearly do not have the temperament to be in that line of work. Getting those bad apples out should be a priority and I am sure it is for some departments.
The bigger question is, who wants to be a cop these days? They’ve run the normies out of the police departments in order to be more “Stylish”, as Dirty Harry would say.
So they are stuck with hiring whomever they can get. The good cops go work in the smaller towns and suburbs.

I can’t disagree with that. But, I didn’t mean Freeper yammering, I meant BLM and the media, et al. their yammering.
I mean, cases like this one, and that other poor fellow who was basically set upon and beaten to death by the “elite anti-crime squad” as well as the two cases with women that I mentioned, they all show pretty clearly that this stuff does NOT arise out of racism. I don’t know how many big time racists are signing up to be big city cops anyway.
I’m reminded of a line from an Elmore Leonard book (don’t remember which one). There was a character who was a corrections officer in a prison. Another character said he didn’t understand taking a job like that, because it was way too much time spent around black people. HAHA, Scott Adams isn’t applying to Rikers Island anytime soon!
