“””Looking at this video. it looks like LA was a nice place, what happened?”””

JFK won the 1960 election.

“During the 1920s and 1930s Los Angeles was a bastion of Anglo Protestantism, reflecting the values of Midwestern parishioners who had been carried to the Southland
on the Southern Pacific Railroad. Well into the 1970s, Protestant denominational leaders enjoyed comfortable, influential ties with the city‘s still-strong ―downtown business establishment, which itself was largely Protestant.

The Immigration Act of 1965, however, created the condition for a radically different religious future for the City of Angels-a future that would anoint Roman Catholicism as
the area‘s dominant religious group. Today Roman Catholicism is the single largest faith tradition in Los Angeles County, with 294 parishes and 3,631,368 adherents. Among
Christians, 71% are Catholics. Between 1980 and 1997, Roman Catholicism experienced a 36% growth.”

I don’t think Catholicism was the problem.

Watts. The general race riots. Likely mostly enabled due to hippie influence?

The ‘60s were a disaster in every single way (I mean that…even the dumbest things went south, like dog breeding, horse racing, etc).

“Looking at this video. it looks like LA was a nice place, what happened?”

A relative handful of Communists got jobs as professors, and pushed their crap. Having recently been neutered by the McCarthy Hearings (think Jan 6th for them), the people who ran the universities and SHOULD have given them one-way helicopter tickets instead sat by and DID NOTHING.

And so the virus multiplied, generation by generation, until we literally have a political party, representing half of the country, doing EVERYTHING they can to turn the US into the Soviet Union...actually worse, since the Soviet Union didn’t want World War 3, didn’t flood their country with Third World types, and didn’t support mutilation of their children, but otherwise virtually the a carbon copy.

Amazing what LA was like back then. Not much after this film was made, the DOORS came out with LA Woman. Interesting to picture the city as it was back near the time of the song and the group hanging out down there.

Below is the song with images of modern LA - what a change in the city landscape.

Those cars were amazing. Looking at photos of all of my dad’s cars that he had over the years it’s a shame we/he couldn’t have kept all of them!

My brother did get my grandfather’s 1946(?) Mercury that was in really good shape, and then he fixed it up to near new condition.

It's like watching the street scenes in an episode of Dragnet.

There was one episode where this little surprise was found:

I am guessing somewhere in DTLA on a Sunday due to light traffic. Lack of smog is another clue.
