A Texas grandmother shot dead an armed man who tried to rob her family-owned food truck in a Houston parking lot on Tuesday.
Keshondra Howard Turner, 53, was cooking soul food inside her "Elite Eats and Cold Treats" truck when a 23-year-old man drove up and asked what food was being served, according to Houston police Lt Bryan Bui, KHOU-11 TV reported.
After Turner told him, the man suddenly pulled out a gun, exited his car, and demanded cash.
Turner shut the truck's window, but the man forced it open, stuck his weapon inside, and tried to fire at her.
The gun jammed, and Turner, who has a handgun license, drew her own weapon and shot the would-be robber several times.
The man stumbled about 50 feet away before collapsing, and authorities later found him and pronounced him dead.
After the shooting, Turner suffered from a panic attack and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police say the grandmother is not expected to be charged as she fired her weapon in self-defense, KHOU reported.
The woman's son told KHOU that he believed the incident had been saved due to "divine intervention."
"She's a Godly woman; that's why the gun jammed - because God jammed it," he said.
"My momma is a great person, you know? Good-hearted, looking out for everybody. She'd give the shirt off her back," he said, adding that she would not have fired her gun unless she felt she had no other choice.
Sad that someone my age is a grandmother.
Well, ok, I guess they can start being one. But only the start.
Otherwise, clearly using such terms is meant to draw sympathy.
Good on her for protecting her actual turf.
I hate these kinds of stories. Just look at her. Sweet face, radiates goodness — a hard working woman murdered by a dirtbag.
I hate this world sometimes.
Old story, but it bears saying agt, nice shootin’ Keshondra. Nice to see you living happily ever after.
Me too, but the perp was the one shot dead.
Wait A second... I read this all wrong. She shot the jerk!!
GOOD ON HER!
It’s been a long day. Seriously, a long day...
Open mouth, insert foot.
Good shooting, granny.
Having chest pains was the person strike Two !
God Bless the Young Lady!
Have a kid in your early twenties and they have a kid in their early twenties, presto, you are a grandparent and you have not even hit 50.
And that is a good age to have them because you still have a bit of energy left enjoy them.
Did you mean "open mouth, insert fin"?
“”My momma is a great person, you know? Good-hearted, looking out for everybody. She’d give the shirt off her back,””
GREAT SHOOTING!!! She needs to give lessons to others!
Good shoot’en granny!
“Police say the grandmother is not expected to be charged as she fired her weapon in self-defense, KHOU reported. “
Good thing this happened in Texas and not a blue state or she probably would probably have been charged with Capital Murder.
I knew a guy who was a grandfather at THIRTY THREE! He knocked up a girl at sixteen, and their daughter got herself in a bit of a pickle at sixteen as well.
I applaud this woman’s chutzpah!
No, she survived. She killed the robber who was trying to kill her. It is GOOD EVs!
Hope this lady will be all right.
A similar story happened on a street where I lived years ago, but the outcome was very sad.
Same thing. Food truck. Thief broke in. He had a gun.
But, the woman inside had a child with her. When she pulled her gun, the thief shot her dead. :-(
It is an easy interpretive error. What I first read “A Texas grandmother shot dead” I thought as you did.
Then, finishing the headline, you realize she shot dead the robber.
It’s a common British usage, not so common in the USA.
Good shootin’,Grandma!
Have a child at 16, who has a child at 16, who has a child at 16, and you can be a great-grandmother and not yet be 50.
And my great-grandmother was married at 16, so at one time this would not have been considered odd.
