oh man, this band goes way back!
They have a version of Sweet Jane that is just amazing.

Now I’m all nostalgic for my college years... sigh...

Stewing to the Cowboy Junkies since the 1990s.
Great music that will calm the soul and the mind…

Saw them with John Prine in the early 90’s - Margo has a sweet, sweet voice.

Cat’s Cradle days

Chapel Hill! I lived at that club in 1986-88. The owner and I were cooks at Carolina Coffee Shop.

I lived in Denver for about 10 years. Late '70s through '80s and spent a lot of time in Boulder. We called it the Granola Capitol of the World and it was a cool place to hang out. ;O)

I do love that song by them.

I wish they could re-master or re-do it so it sounded better in my car (I think that road noise somehow overpowers the frequency of the vocal).

Lou Reed said their cover of Sweet Jane was better than the original.

That was their best location… the old electric company on Franklin. Then they moved down the road to Carrboro, which was a different setup, but still the best venue in the Triangle. 🤘

I remember them well. Sweet Jane was kind of a big hit back in the lates 80s (?) Sorta introduced a LOT of people to “alt country.” The album, “Trinity Sessions” sold very well, too, IIRC. Gotta admit that as much as I liked them, it’s been decades since I’ve heard them.

I have three of their albums. They did a lot of Townes Van Zandt covers, great interpretations.

If I was an artist, and they were doing a tribute album for me, I’d insist on them including The Cowboy Junkies. Their version of “Ooh, Las Vegas” on the Gram Parsons’ tribute album and “Highway Kind” on the Townes Van Zandt tribute album are stellar! I would never allow Dinosaur, Jr. on the album.

For those that loved their version of “Sweet Jane,” check out the version by Two Nice Girls (there are three girls in the band).
