A few lying lawyer encounters will get you back into whatever bad habit you had before. I enjoy beating them but most fights are ones that shouldn’t have to happen in the first place. A couple decades ago the family wanted me to go back to law school. I explained that if I did my focus would be on hunting down crooked lawyers. That conversation piddled out fairly quickly.
Remember FLee Bailey? Dipping into the trust account kind of stuff would have gotten my attention.
My grandfather was Attorney General of North Carolina before he went to the Supreme Court of NC. His grandfather was also a SCONC justice. Now their portraits face each other at the head of the SC chambers in Raleigh.
When I was a boy I went with my grandfather down to Cape Hatteras light. To get there you have to cross and eight mile, two lane, bridge over Oregon Inlet. On the way back north to Kill Devil Hills we were at the top of the bridge when an NC state trooper flicked his lights on. Now it was another 3.5 miles before he could pull over. I was wondering what granddad had done wrong but he wasn't concerned.
It seems the trooper had seen grandad's license plate "JD-8" and wanted to say hello. I think Granddad knew every state trooper in NC from when he was AG. My dad kept his AG gold shield under a small glass dome on his law office desk for years. It is now at the UNC-CH library in the North Carolina Collection.
