Ice is horrifying. We had a bad ice storm in 2008. We were out of power for 7 days in the middle of a very cold December. Once in 200 year storm because I had a 200 year old oak tree that split down the middle from it. I now have a whole house generator and will for the rest of my days no matter where I wind up. The new house will be auto standby.

Just to add one more thing. I couldn’t go to work that week because of all the electric poles down and because I was in a SHTF situation. When I went back to work the first day back I think I sort of knew what war veterans felt like when coming back to the country. After everything I had been through it was was such a strong, odd, real feeling like I’ve never had before and luckily haven’t had since.

I’ll also never forget the day the trucks hooked us back up to the grid. I live in (M)assachusetts. The crew was from Washington state.

I still have my gas when the electricity goes out, I still can keep warm when the electric goes out and can warm my house and cook when needed because I still have gas for water and stove!

mine just kicked in about an hour ago...made my wife happy as she kept waiting for an outage to see if it was worth the expense....go figure.
